Hi guys,
i have 300 gal system and my consumption is increasing by the minute and i need to find a way to do the two part by my self asap.
I can get the chemical compounds in 25 kg bags very cheap compared to any of the aquarium brands. I have read a lot of articles so far but some ot the details are confusing and i am not sure am i geting it right.
Would it possible that you can help me?
I need the exact quantities of the chemical compounds that i have to mix so i get the correct formula without ionic displacement.
Thank you in advance i will post some photos and hope that you would like my tank.

Have you looked into Randy's 2 part recipes? You can get the diy chemicals at much smaller quantities then 25kg at hardware stores, etc, eg calcium chloride, baking soda/washing soda, epsom salts, magnesium chloride, etc

Hi Curviceps,
thank you very much.
I have already read most of his detailed information regarding the two part system.
I am getting more confused the more i read and compare it to the baling light or baling complete methode.
How would you suggest to add boron and strontium and iodine to the main substances ot the two part system?
What about the NaCl free salt as well?

IMO, I see no reason to add boron, strontium, iodine or NaCl free salt supplements. Just do regular 25%-40% monthly water changes using reputable salt (like Instant Ocean) and your tank will have all the boron, strontium, iodine, and NaCl free salt it needs.

The only things you need to dose are calcium carbonate and soda ash (or sodium bicarbonate) solutions to maintain calcium levels at 400 ppm minimum and alkalinity levels at minimum of 7.0 dKH. For me, this requires dosing pump and checking levels every day or two to make sure levels are on target.

I test for magnesium once a month but with monthly 25-40% water changes using Instant Ocean salt and 0 TDS RO/DI filtered water, I rarely have to add any magnesium salts.

Good luck,

Mike

I agree that the tank probably will be fine without the extra trace elements or the NaCl-free mix. The salt-free mix does serve a purpose. The basic supplements are calcium chloride and sodium carbonate. The calcium and carbonate are consume, leaving NaCl. Over time, the Na+ and Cl- can build up, but water changes should be fine to keep the ionic balance in line.
