cherub angel with sps?

Hey unbreakable, nice to see you!

I would go ahead and add it but have a plan to remove the fish if the nipping gets too serious.

hey whats up! looks like most people did well with theirs but ill monitor it to see how it does.

do the sps still grow at a good rate when there is nipping? or does growth slow down?

The only thing mine nipped at was at my Crocea Clam. Maybe out of curiosity? I moved it to the sided of the tank, and it never did it again. Awesome fish to watch!

Also, if you have a good size tank, that seems to reduce the nipping. Maybe they just have more LR to graze.

went ahead and got it. the female saddleback didnt want it near her. it's been hiding on the opposite side of the clowns; looks like its trying to adjust to the new flow and tank

hope it works out for you, my new African flameback has been a model citizen so far.

This is good to know as I'm looking to add one of these as well. I've also heard that if you feed them well, it helps in keeping the angels from nipping.

It will be difficult to add a Flameback with a Cherub already established. Not impossible, especially in a larger tank. But bear this in mind, both of these are close relatives & amongst the most aggressive Pygmy angels. C. argi may be good with coral, but they often become tyrants later. If you add the Flameback quickly, it might help. But if its a year down the road, the Cherub is going to kill the new angel. They are fairly notorious for this. Another Centropyge like a Flame or Potter's would be a better choice, IMO.

Sincerely,
Matthew

I find it over and over again on the boards with angels, just because one person has luck with a certain genus does not mean another will. Every single angel has a different personality and different taste. Just like a human. I personally put angels in with sps and accept the nipping. I have never lost any sps due to nipping. But, if someone says there angel doesnt nip, that really is a moot point because you are not adding that angel. Just because you like seafood does mean every single human does.

He's behaving. Havent seen if he nips on the LPS or not. The saddleback gave him a hard time for almost a whole week. Looking forward to upgrading to a 150g in a month or two

It goes absolutely nuts for squid though

oh yea

so can angels nip SPS to the point they might RTN? If the polyps stay closed up during the day, does that affect the growth of SPS?

Of course they can. I never saw mine do it, though I suspect it harrased Zoa's to death ( except the ugly ones, figures..). It is the nature of Centropyge to graze on hard substrate for Diatoms and such.
Just keep an eye on it. Oh, C. argi being smaller do less damage. Usually.
But as everyone say, each fish is as individual as each of us.
