Cherub Angel

Has anyone had experience with a Cherub Angel? I just purchased an existing 30 gal reef tank that had no fish and no corals. I'm looking into a reef safe angle for my tank and I think this from what I've read seems to be the best choice for my plans on this reef tank.

I'd like to hear from anyone that knows anything about them.

I'm interested in info as well. I have been considering a trio for a 55g that current contains a yellow corris wrasse, and yellow watchman goby as the only fish. They would be the focal fish for this system. Them and the flame backs are at the top of my list currently.

Not sure how well a trio would do in a 55g as the dominate species in the tank. Also concerned they may become lunch quickly for the carpet in the tank.

Dkuhlmann, I love my yellow watchman. Very unique character. My youngest daughter calls him the old fish because she says "hes grumpy and cant swim good". Shes three, and always very concerned he wont get food, lol. He paired up with the tiger pistol shrimp i added instantly. Very cool symbiotic relationship.

I have had him for 6 months or so.

I didn't consider the pistol shrimp. I do want one or two shrimp of some sort but here is a list of what I plan.

In no particular order

BTA multicolor
Clown most likely maroon gold stripe
Cherub Angel
Yellow Watchman goby
Carpenter flasher wrasse (male prefered)
Royal Gramma
Flame Hawkfish
Emerald crab
mixed snails

Corals
Frogspawn
Torch
Flowerpot
mushrooms (still debating on them)
Hammer corals

I'll more than likely get the BTA first then the clown and go from there. I'll be adding corals during the fish additions as I've got a local reefer that sells corals :bounce1:

The best part of the tank I purchased is it was an already setup system but the owner had sold all of her fish and corals to the person that bought her 75. She was a reef and tank nut like all of us but it was time for her to get out. Sadly during transport my water, and everything got down to 55 degrees during transport. So I'm expecting an ammonia spike and will see how that goes first. I did a 30% or more water change when I got it setup.

I'll be buying some more lr as this thank had hardly any. There was more in the sump than the tank. Tank only had two pieces. So this week I'll be picking up some great lr from my local coral guy :thumbsup:

From what I've read if you put a trio of similar angels while young it could work out. Make sure you get the dwarf variety for sure as I don't think a 55 would be safe for larger angels.

I use to have a 40 reef and a 200 fowlr. I got out of it about 8 years ago or so and now I'm ready to start back up. I'll probably upgrade my 30 but not sure how large I wish to go. I'm actually thinking 40B as a max.

I would stay away from the YSM Clown for your size tank. I have a pair in my 300g stock tank. The female is very large, about 5 inches, and when she was in my 55g she pretty much dominated the whole tank. If it existed, it was because she allowed it to exist. She would move corals, rock work, etc. She has much better manners in the 300g, but she is still boss.

Definitely if you go with a YSM add it last.

The reason I said the maroon clown was I had one in my 40 and she did well. Maybe I got a good one LOL

My other choice on clown is true perc. I want one that will go well with my BTA. What are your suggestions?

I will add the angel last for sure. I'm aware that the OC clowns may or may not take to the BTA.

I havent kept BTA's yet.

I have only kept nems that tend to keep their foot in the sand. I currently have a LTA and a large carpet nem in my 55g.

I have only been in the hobby about a year, so while i have done my fair share of research, my experience is somewhat limited.

I have also only kept YSM clowns. I haven't kept any other species of clowns yet.

I can say that my YSM maroons wouldn't touch the carpet, but loved the LTA.

I had one. It did't bother corals but did not like any fish added after him.

I had two cherubs, both were great in the reef but any other smaller fish added after them they would go right after.

Mine liked to munch my XL green nephea softie.

Too bad, it was a real PITA getting that sucker out of a tank filled with LR.

Like you I picked him because they have a low rate of trouble.
