Chevron Tang owners

Looking at getting one of these gorgeous tangs but wanting to know more about them. For those that have them could you tell me if the tang is worth the cash? They are pricey. Pics would be nice too. How long would you expect to keep this fish before it starts to transition? Thanks

beautiful as juveniles...not as stunning as an adult and they mature fairly quickly. mine went from a 1" full juvenile to a 4" full adult in about a year. i have owned 3 and all of them have been pretty aggressive once established. overall it is one of my favorite fish.

Juveniles are great looking adults not so much.

But Chevrons have a great mouth for eating algae. They do a better job than other tangs when it comes to keeping the rock clean.

I always keep at least one in my tank. I don't have agression issues with them as I keep lots of fish. I have kept juveniles and adults together with no issue.

I love my Chevron Tang. He is currently 1 1/2 inch, and I have only had him for 6 months. He did have a little bit of trouble eating much of anything when I first bought him. After a week of having him, he took on to sprinula brine shrimp, and that's all he ate for quite awhile. He will now eat flakes, mysis, and sprinula. He has recently taken a liken to nori.

I agree with the previous poster that said they are excellent algae eaters. If I get lazy and don't wipe my glass down for a few days, there is always a few little oval circles all over my tank glass from him munching on algae. If you have an algae problem and you have a big enough tank, this is a great fish for you.

I haven't had any aggression issues, though he is one of the smallest fish in the tank at the moment. He does get a little crazy aggressive when it's dinner time, but all fish do that.

I expect mine to maintain it's beautiful orange coloration for at least two years from now, maybe more. I don't mind, though, because I do love the coloration of an adult chevy tang. It's part of the reason I got it.

I did catch him nipping at one of my clams' mantle. I blame him for the death of another one of my clams. This was when I first got him, though, and he wasn't eating well.

I told myself I was going to move him, but decided I like him too much, so I moved my clams into a cage. I ended up taking them back out after I got him well established on mysis shrimp, and haven't had any problems since.

^^^ agree with all above - we have had one for a year and 4 months - the adult coloration is very intresting - the chevron pattern reflects blue light very well- I post some pics in min

some pics - first pic 10/3/13 or so last pic tonight
def no org left --- looks solid black in the day with grey/silver pattern then when blues are up from our radions u get the pics on the bottom

I personally find the adults equally attractive. It's just those ugly duckling teenage years that aren't so nice

Love this fish. Mine changed to an adult in one year. ( 1" to 4"). Juvi's colors really stand out but adults, when looked at closely, really have some unique colors as well. Either way they really help keep the algae in check.
