Chiller advice

We just had our first 90F day her in Socal and I am seriously considering adding a chiller. I have a 100 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump, 2 ea 250 MH lights and 110 watts of HVO atinics, glass tank. Water temp hit 82 after one day of 90 degrees.

Any recommendations?

I have a 20g down here in Florida. While cycling with my 150 watt HQI my temp rose from 78 to 82 within an hour. I bought one of those stand fans . . . it was the perfect height to push air right above the tank. Now my heaters come on in the middle of the day even when the lights are on. A steady 78 degrees.

I'm not sure if you've already decided to get a chiller or not, but I really would suggest adding a fan first. I live in Houston and the heat and humidity every summer is insane, but the fans I add over the sump still manage to cool the tank down to a little below 80.

It's a cheaper option compared to a chiller, and I think it's just as effective.

Check this out. I have a 90 and went w/ the 1/3 hp. Way overkill, but it only runs a few minutes at a time + only $15 more than the 1/4hp.

i would do the 1/4 hp. remember...its not necessarily good for your inhabitants to experience a 2-3 degree temperature change over a few minutes...i think it is better to do it over a few hours.
