chiller question

Now what I am planning on doin is having a 65g aga that will have the duel 175 watt ballast with 14k bulbs and spider reflectors. A 125 bioball wet dry. My euroreef RS5-2. 10 gallon refugium. 2 T5's if i can fit them. calcium reactor when i get enough money and find a good deal. This will be a total sps system.

Now with that in mind would a prime 1/4 hp in line aquarium reef tank chiller be overkill?

and if u have any sugggestions for improvement to my plans now please feel free to say anything

thanks!

It's allways better to go bigger on the chiller but IMO you might not need one on that system if your house stays below ~75F in the summer and you use good fans in your canopy(or don't have a canopy). If not you might get away with a 1/10 but a 1/4 wouldn't hurt if you can swing it. I would ditch the bioballs. The two most important things for sps are water quality and flow(then of course light and stability). I don't see you mention flow and a good closed loop might be something to think about. You might also consider 10K's since you are going with 175's. The 14's might work just fine but I know the Hamiltons have really low par on magnetic ballasts.

well this stuff is on my 37g tank im upgrading so my 37 g has one halide at the moment and is in the 80's and i have a sock wet dry and is amazingly loud( the tanks in my room) so im goin with the bio wet dy because it is really quiet and a blueline 30. IM thinkin about a closed loop but im so sure on how to do it and i like a lot of blue in a tank so if the 14k dont work out i already have 20k on my 37g, and iv heard from different sources that sps seem to do good under 14k bulbs. I am also tryin to do a recreation of one of the old tanks of the month the one with the three collums.( the reef, the island and the bar because i like alot of visible sandbed and i like the separation on the live rock).
but behind the rock clustrers on the sides im wanting to put seio 1100. so there are a few more spoeks

I have a 1/10 hp on my 65 and i would deffinately opt for a 1/5 or 1/4---and my lights are hanging (open top)--a PFO hood w/ 2 fans.

well i hope so im only 15 and it takes me a hell of a long time to get that kind of money( i work at a lfs most of my money is toward college so i get around 30$ a week)

Well, since that is the case---my 1/10 hp stays on ~1hr to cool from 81F down to 79F and this is w/ maximizing evaporative cooling----so you have to ask yourself--can I keep temp regulated to w/ in 2-3 degrees w/out a chiller? If you can run it at 82-83F w/ fans blowing over sump and keep heater adjusted just right--you probably do not need the 1/4. But it is very nice to have complete control over temp in an SPS tank--no worries about fluccuations.

ya i know well imv got the 37g tank 175 watt metal halid and the 125 berlin style sump pluse diy canopy, pine stand and im tryin for 400$ but doubt i will get and if do it will help with the chiller problem and im buyin the chiller used which will bring the cost down

Some how, I think you will manage to succeed---good luck---and i know a lot of people here do not have chillers, but that kind of perplexes me--why spend so much on everything else but temp control???
