Chiller

I have a 3/4 HP in line water chiller from CustomSeaLife that has been in operation since about January of 2002. Last night, after looking at my electric bill and noticing the kilowatt hours have about doubled over the last few months, I decided to check out the chiller. It is supposed to come on at 81 degrees and turn off at 80 degrees. The controller showed a temperature of 77 and the chiller was on for no apparent reason. I have a feeling it has been stuck on on for a few months.

My question is has anybody ever experienced this and what did they do? What do I need to do?

Thx

I am not sure how you could be unsure if it is stuck on, is the compressor running full time? (your heater will be running full time as well)

If it is, then you need to call the maker of the unit. The thing likely has a bad sensor or a stuck relay.

Fuzzy I am in the market for a chiller for a 90gal I am wondering what are the good ones and best prices? Have you been pleased with yours until this problem and has the manufacture given any satisfaction?

I figured out the problem. My heater and chiller were fighting against each other. Heater was set on 82; chiller on 80!!!

I am a doofus!

I got my chiller from customsealife which is now out of business. It is made with copeland components and I have experienced NO problems with it (except my own stupidity).

I have the 1/5 HP JBJ Artica and cannot say enough good things about it. It's best feature is how quiet it is!

95 is the highest, 32 is the lowest.

thanks alan, what size tank/sump ya coolin, my 90 tank and 40 sump be around 130gal is 1/5 enough?

I'm cooling a 92G with about 20G sump plus a 29G fuge.

The 1/5 (which I think may have been discontinued) will cool up to a 180 gallon.

Thanks Alan. I thought they only ranged from 60-80 F. This is good news. I know artica is a reputable brand but was worried I couldn't keep my tank over 80 F.
