In case anyone was curious, the reefbreeders value fixture has 27 royal blues, 1x 630nm red, 1x 660nm red, 2x greens, 2x UV, and 2x regular blues and 18 cool whites.

They are sold out of them for now but when they get them back in stock in 2 or 3 weeks he is going to set mine up so that it will dim with the Apex and still have the dimming knobs work.
I asked him if he could do it this way because I will not be geting my Apex for 6 months or so.
It will be $30 extra

That reefbreeders fixture is an excellent choice, especially for someone with an Apex.

I'm still not convinced that those fixtures have true 0-10v dimmable drivers in them, and adding 4 meanwells into it would have driven the cost up substantially. I don't see how it could dim via Apex with a pot resistance dimming driver. I'm curious to see it working though.

What would some of you guys get for a 75g 4foot wide tank? I wanted to get optimal growth on the corals (mainly lps and zoas/softies). I wanted to use a d120 since it seems to be the cheapest path, but I'm not sure on the color combo and who's the most reputable to order from :(

He assured me that he has these setup with his Apex on his frag tank. Here are some things he told me about the dimming via controller:

The only thing about the dimming is that it works best as an oposite, as in 90%=10%, 40%=60%. Otherwise it would only dim to about 60%. Like theorized before, it works by resistance. When you put omre current in the opposite direction, the current increases, less, it decreases and so on.

What's difference between the violets and uv. This thread is nuts. With info. Energy me I tune in. I go back and rethink my configuration. What config with vilets and uv will be close to like the radium MH

Man all those ratios are wayyyy too white for me..... The white are pretty powerful so they over power the blues in a 50/50 setting but that's just my opinion....

I wanted to ask you how do you like your configuration and is this

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/317880/211586450-566668318/D-120w-24blue-4uv-and-27white.html

the exact same of what you ordered? I wanted to ask you could you give me a quick explanation of what the violets do as opposed to just a blue/white combo? I was reading through it all but 70+ pages is giving me a headache..lol

The difference is the wavelength of the light. UV is around 380-390nm, Violet is around 420nm and more useful.

That reeftraders light would closely match a Radion type setup, as it has red and green leds in it.

No that's not what I got. Same unit but not that ratio I got a ratio of 30 blues 21 whites 4 violets. I'm very happy with it.

From what I've gather the violets just bring out more of your pink and red colors in your corals. Too many though and it could make it too purple of a look mine are the 440 nms not the 400 nms and I only got 4 and personally 4 is the most id do in the 55 led unit. It depends on what kinda look you like personally. I personally don't like any of the ratio up on ali express there all to white .... But thats my taste I would be a 2 blue to 1 white ratio to my taste. My ratio I have now is more like a 1.5 blu to 1 white ratio. I think if I could do it again id do 34 blue 17 whites and 4 violets. Or a 33 blue and 18 white 4 violets. but once again that's my taste you might not like that

I agree with Travis's color combos above if I had to go back again and do it over. I think people equate the whites with how bright their tank will be. Whites are very strong and will overpower the blues at a 1:1 ratio. Something closer to 2:1 with a couple violets would be my choice for the future. IMO.

To be honest I really don't know how different the violets and uvs are I believe the uvs are more towards a 400nm and are more pink then the violets 440s which are more purple. I could tell which is better or worse I do know the led genuis username troptrea he led me more towards the 440s

I don't have personal experience with UV but feedback that I have READ about it suggests too much pink. Like I said before, the color combo Travis posted a few replies earlier is what I would do. I have 6 violets in each of my 48 LED lights and I think it is too pink and would NOT do it like that again if/when I buy lights again. Blue/white/ with no UV or violet would be better than too much UV or violet---again IMO.

Got this from Sam today.

Any thoughts on the LED layout?

Also, what is the difference between a LED PCB Board 28:27

and (Travis) LED PCB Board 30:25?

Hello Ken,

Can do as

1st dimmer to have 17 whites/11 blues
2nd dimmer to have 23 blues/4 violets

using 28:27 LED PCB board.

OR

1st dimmer to have 17 whites/13 blues
2nd dimmer to have 21 blues/4 violets

using 30:25 LED PCB board(Travis's)

all with 90 degree LEDs

6500k and 10000k, yes we can do it.

Three working days delivery.

Extra cost:
Violet 440nm: 0.8USD/pc or
Violet 420nm: 1USD/pc

Up to you.

14USD for DIY ratio.

Best regards,
Sam
