Got this from Sam today.

Any thoughts on the LED layout?

Also, what is the difference between a LED PCB Board 28:27

and (Travis) LED PCB Board 30:25?

Hello Ken,

Can do as

1st dimmer to have 17 whites/11 blues
2nd dimmer to have 23 blues/4 violets

using 28:27 LED PCB board.

OR

1st dimmer to have 17 whites/13 blues
2nd dimmer to have 21 blues/4 violets

using 30:25 LED PCB board(Travis's)

all with 90 degree LEDs

6500k and 10000k, yes we can do it.

Three working days delivery.

Extra cost:
Violet 440nm: 0.8USD/pc or
Violet 420nm: 1USD/pc

Up to you.

14USD for DIY ratio.

Best regards,
Sam

30:25 and 28:27 is just how many leds are wired per driver/dimmer. Looks like a good ratio, as I would also have rather had more blues. I went 1:1 white:blue and whites really overpower it at 100%.

PCB board means how many lights on each circuit (plug) ---I assume after doing the math. Both the configurations are great and I really do not think you would be able to tell a difference between the two as they are nearly identical (two blue LEDs).
440nm=more purple, 420nm=more pink--personally I like the 440 more. Go for it!!!

That should be a perfect ratio man.... I wish pics worked better on these units so I could see it compared to mine.

I got 30 blues 21 whites 4 violets and I'm happy with it but if I could do it again id deff go a tad bluer and your ratio like exactly what id do 34 blues 17 whites 4 violets (440nm)

In fact what I upgrade to my 120 I planned on getting a matching unit but I'm highly considering getting two new units with that ratio and selling mine. But icant complain about mine so far I love it

My new drivers should be arriving this week. I'll update with pics/experiences if I get sunrise/sunset working through my apex. Leds will be brighter too, being driven at a higher current, 650 mah compared to 580.

Thanks for the input.

I am waiting a price from Sam before I pull the trigger.

I hope this works on my 65 gallon! I only used MH and T5's so this for me is a big step with the corals. I looked at Raidons, AI Vega (who knows when it will be ready) AI sole, Reef brites, Tru Lumens, etc...

Although controlling the dimming via an APEX controller is cool and the idea of doing a sunrise/sunset, I felt that the novelty would wear off eventually to have so much adjustable range other than dimming. How many scenarios can you possible use on a reef tank??? Price is a factor too. I don't mind spending the amount to try these lights as opposed to the other brands and their prices. The break even point is greater for those LED's, plus in a couple years the technology should be much better and hopefully the LED lights bought are still usable.

I like the idea of the keep is simple principle!

I'm tellin ya I have a 65 also its 36x18x24tall .... Its works great and I went from a 250 mh to this and love it lights up the tank fully

I would think that a 2/1 blue/white ratio would be perfect with some floro supplements

Here are some pics of my 120w xen lux 1rst gen bridgleux early 2011 10k 1:1 1w; Grows coral and algae very well (toasted my bubble tip) :P in my 30; Just moved the light and stock from my 30 to the 120.

What would some of you guys get for a 75g 4foot wide tank? I wanted to get optimal growth on the corals (mainly lps and zoas/softies). I wanted to use a d120 since it seems to be the cheapest path, but I'm not sure on the color combo and who's the most reputable to order from :(

I'm in the same situation, how many units would be needed for a 75 and how far above the water would it have to be mounted?

If nothing else, I will keep using these lights until:
A. I upgrade to something larger or
B. Competition and technology even out so that the higher end stuff goes way down in price.

I cannot see how one light is $750 and another is $165. Sure there are extra features but $600 dollars worth----I just don't see it.

My thoughts exactly.

The new Cree XT-E leds are already more powerful and cost less than the previous generation of XP-G/XP-E leds. I can't see committing to such a high priced light when cheaper alternatives are available.

2 d120s will be pleanty of light for both of your guys 75 gallon tanks.

id say somewhere be 8"-15" mines at 9 id prefer more like 10" or 12" but mines in a canopy and 9 was the best I could get it. And color combo is based off your preference. What kinda look do you like?

I run one on my 36 inch long tank and it light up the whole tank without a prob so 2 over a 75 gallon would be pleanty.

Its a 75 gallon they have not a 75 inch...

I have one on my 29g, and with 30blue/25white at 100% it is definately more blue than white and the color is fine for me. I do have one pink polyp that would probably benifit it's color with a couple violets though.

And travis how do you like your 65g? or do you think a 75 would be better? as i am thinking of doing an upgrade.

I guess I'll hang em like this!

I guess I'll hang em like this!

I have a canopy on my 90. I used 3/8" galvanized all thread rod and 1-1/2" aluminum angle iron to hang 2 channels that the lights sat in perfectly. Please let me know what you think or what I can improve on to make better. What do you think about the metals used? I guess I can use stainless steel instead.

Let me know what you think
