chinese led lights

Is there a big difference in the quality of light from cree vs bridgelux vs epistar? Just wondering if it is worth the extra money to use one over another. I have Lyn giving me a price on all three.

Bridgelux/epistar are the same generic asian sourced leds. I doubt these use actual Bridgelux sourced leds. In theory, it would be tough to tell if you are getting actual Crees too. Some use authentic ones, some might not.

None of the Cree fixtures use the newest Cree XT-E leds yet. I don't see the value in paying a premium for last gen leds like the XPE. The XPG's are still nice, but none of these fixtures use them to their full advantage at over 3 watts.

Could you please post some pictures of the lights once you get them set up over your tank. I like your design and am really interested in how they look. Did you order optics? I will need 4 of these for my tank and really want to know exactly how they look before plunking down that much cash.

Will do! They were making them today so hopefully will be here by next week. I did order 90 degree optics but the led's are already 90 degree however I figured since there is no splash guard it can't hurt and the optics may improve the focus a little.

OK, probably stick with the bridgelux/epistar. How did you come up with your color combination, trying to mimick natural light better? Did you put the colors with the whites on one dimmer and the blues on their own dimmer?

Are Cree leds and a controller non-negotiables? If it is only 14" deep, and you are using optics, Crees might be overkill. The dimmable (by knobs) d120 with optics would only run around $170ish and provide plenty of light. The $255 d120 from Twilight Group with built in controller would still be $100+ less.

That is true about paying a premium for the old crees. I would like a controller though. Do those D120's have the whole simulate sunrise/sunset? have you got the link for them?

+1, I see alot of these color layouts but never any finished results....do you know of any on here?

Found the link. It'll cost me $380.07 for that dimmable one from Twilight cause it looks like they will charge me $124.57 for shipping :hmm3:

On first look I noted

body material IRON

Does anyone know how fast Iron rusts when and corrodes when it is subject to a salt water based humidity? I would not consider a fixture that was not made of allumnium and or Plastic

I'd have to double check when I get it. The 2 fixtures I got so far are both aluminum.

bhazard451, did you add the other colors to broaden the color spectrum of the light and give it a more natural look? DId you put the colors on the white dimmer and keep the blues and moonlights on their own for a total of three dimmers?

Got shipped notification for aliexpress today on my D120. So from what I've read you all recieve them in 3-5 days after it leaves china. Thanks. Skimmer getting here tomorrow and light to follow. Thinking of making a hanging bracket out of PVC frame and paint to match other than hanging from ceiling. My ceiling in garage is 13' high. Anybody else doing this or do most hang from canopy/ceiling. It's going over a 24 cube.

I'm about to blow up a companies spot, and I don't care.

Have any of you seen the "US made" Apollo Reef Led Solarbrite fixtures being sold for $399 that are Apex controllable? Apparently, Twilight Group makes those too, and sold them for $167 a fixture in bulk to Apollo Reef Led. Want Proof?

It looks like they can make an Apex Dimmable d120 for everyone for under $250.

yep.. there's the port on the right in the display pic.. on other pics covered by thumb.. there is alos a review of this us fixture somewhere here..

Ok Guy's,
Getting ready to buy from Sam and am looking at this one:

What do you think. I think I've read too much and my brain is fried as if it wasn't already. Trying to decide between this one or just the 1:1. I'm going to just try 2 first and if I like them I'll get two more as the tank is 6 foot with only one center brace which i think would not work out great with just 3.
