chinese led lights

I have a question for those that have multiple different whites in their array. Right now i have 12 10000k white 4 Royal blue and 4 UV on dimmer 1. 20 Royal Blue and 4 Violet on dimmer 2. I have 4 6500 k LEDs that I recieved with the light "just in case". Im really contemplating adding these. I like the color as is im just wondering if it would bring out more color in some reds and cover more of the full spectrum. Any ideas are recomended. If I add them i would either replace the 4 UV or replace 4 10000k whites. Thanks

The 6500k leds would provide a bit more spectrum, yes. Removing UV or whites is up to you. I would personally remove 4 whites if you are going to do it.

Its more about will it benefit the corals. I can have someone here do the soldering if I need too. Color to me is fine. At 100% for both it is slightly more blue than Id like but not much. I can adjust for that. Thanks for all your advice

People keep talking about starting with the lights at about 50% on the dimmer and working up from there. My question is if the lights really quit adding much brightness after 50-65% are they really doing anything more turned up past 65%???

This is making me wonder if MH lamps would be a better choice for growing corals ect?

Well I cant answer for others, but with the 5 lights I have, you can tell that the light increases in brightness from about 10% until 100% when you adjust them. So I'm not sure I understand the 65% issue.

You can grow the heck out of some corals with LED's...soft and hard. They have plenty of PAR if not more without all of the UV radiation and heat.

Better all around in my opinion...and yes, I am growing corals. my birdnest is really growing nicely now...started as a tiny little frag, my povona, hydnophora, are all doing well. my frogspawn LPS has a third head, and the softies, well, do I have to mention?? haha!

Thanks, I cant believe the price on these units :spin2:
Easy to take a risk this way.

One last question, can I get some red leds somewhere and add them?
I once added a 'reddish'' (can't remember exactly what color) T5 to my Ati array and my tank totally came alive colorwise

no problems with algea? they love red. +1 on just tell them what you want. pictures speak a thousand words if you get my drift. i just use MSPAINT and put the colors and the wavelenght/temp...that way it is not possible to screw up.

also, 180 shipped is a pretty good price...i would really press them on what power supply they are using. they may try to dump a 450 or 350ma driver in there and call it 120w when you will be getting about 60w out of it. still works and grows corals, but does you a huge disservice since that is what you paid for. I get 630ma drivers in mine, they work great.

Please give feedback on option one or two for a DIY build on a D120 from Evergrow? How is the spectrum coverage and dispersion placement?

Both attachments are the same builds with different formats (paint vs. word).

Seems well thought out.

The only uncertainty is the greens. They don't really seem to do much of anything. Maybe drop those to 2, or don't use them at all?

How long have you been running the led lights?

Id really like to see some one with pictures from right when they started using the LEDs then 1 month later, 2 months later ect with pictures of the growth.

I'm just thinking if I'm spending I'm not gonna be going down buyer remorse street so I'm asking questions lol.

Bhazard, if you were to use something other for the greens, what LED would you use, or do you see a spectrum area that I am short on or have missed altogether? I am a novice on this and learning all time, in large part due to 125+ pages on this thread :headwallblue:. Also, kudos to cmantis who was kind enough to give me many tips.

The fact is, leds are new and offer a lot of customizing options that have never been available before. The whole thread is a learning experience of everyone involved. No one truly has the 100% right answer, we only go with what knowledge we have at the time, or from experience.

I myself started with a 1:1 cw:rb light and knew nothing about leds a few months ago. Now I know to add violets and a few reds for color. More options are becoming available too over time.

With that said, just replace some of the greens with whites or blues. They are the most beneficial.

Keep in mind I only had mine up for a few weeks before I found out that I had to move across the country so I didn't get much time to play with them. However, I had 3 a4's on my 6' 150g. Each dimmer was on its own timer and I only had my levels at 50%. Blues/uv were on for 10 and whites were on for 5 while I was getting the tank acclimated. For the short time I ran the LED my corals were really responding compared to my 8 bulb ATI fixture. I still need to find me a tank where I am at but haven't had any luck

Thanks, that helps! Anyone with the lights established have input on your lighting schedule?

Just something to ponder with the red 660nm~ red LED's, I read a lot about the Algae scrubbers, am going to build one for my next setup. The 660nm red legs grow algae the best for them.
