I finally finished my Cree XT-E/Luxeon Nova A4.

The fixture looks just like the Nova A4 on the outside, with some major modifications. It's a "Super-Nova A4". It was made with Nova parts and leds/wires/optics from Stevesleds.com and led group buy.com. Total cost would be around $350 for similar parts. It looks absolutely awesome over the tank, and colors pop like crazy.

It has:
24 Cree XT-E Royal Blues @1.3a 4.5w each
6 Cree XT-E Cool Whites @1.3a 4.5w each
3 Cree XT-E Neutral Whites @1.3a 4.5w each
3 Cree XT-E Warm Whites @1.3a 4.5w each
2 Luxeon ES Reds @630mah 3w each
2 Luxeon ES Greens @630mah 3w each
2 Luxeon ES Cyans @630mah 3w each
2 Luxeon ES Cool Blues @630mah 3w each
4 True Violet Leds @630mah 3w each
3 60 Watt Meanwell ELN-60-48D @ 1.3a
1 30 Watt Meanwell ELN-30-48D @ 630mah

~180 watts total. 4 individual channels of Apex control

48 leds, 60 degree optics (changing to 90 because it shades the sides of the tank)

Pics from start to finish

Ok everyone, I'm looking for some ideas on how to hang my 3 nova a4's. The studs above my tank don't line up evenly with the top of my tank. It has 2 braces across the top making each section 24x24 but they aren't directly under the stud

I used the Rubbermaid Twin Track shelving kit that you can find at Home Depot.

I cut the upright to a manageable size. Use one bracket per light.

The anchors that come with the hardware kit for these hold up to 30 lbs each. Each bracket can hold an A4 no problem on drywall. I have a write up on this way back in the thread.

Also I'm looking for some light timing ideas.
I have 3 nova a4's coming with 24 blue and 24 white. The thing with the nova series is you can run them in a series so only one plug goes into socket. I'm debating on following options
1) one fixture on then next then last. Sort of like sunrise etc
2) turn 2blues with 1 white then rest on later
3) 2 whites and 1 blue then rest later
4) all blue then whites
5) all whites on then blue
6) any other options

Make sure you specifically ask for the option to have them run in a series. I forgot to verify that part of my order and I didn't realize it until I recieved the lights. I asked hendy about it and he said it was to late and that needed to be added during the build. So I am stuck trying to find the plug ends on my own and haven't had any luck.

Anyone know where I can get he a4 screw-in type plug end so I can make my own cords?

I am making pvc light hangers that go on top of the tank. I have a link from another forum if interested.

I have just finished setting up a 40 Breeder and need to upgrade my lighting. I currently only have 4 24w t5 over it. I was considering going with one of these fixtures. My question is should I go with optics or not considering the size of the tank and the fact I'm only using one? If anyone has a link for a good choice on that aliexpress everyone seems to be using I would appreciate it. Im looking for something dimmable with good color. Thanks in advance.

Look up some of my posts on this if you are interested. I have 40g breeders. One should be fine with no optics or 90 optics (led's are already 90).

Not all leds have a 90 degree angle, just the ones that Evergrow used for you. A Cree XT-E would have around a 135 degree angle, and a Bridgelux not too much less than that without optics/lens and just the emitter.

could someone please explain how the series power plugs work on the Nova fixtures? im not sure i understand it fully. in my mind i understand it as you can have 2 power cords run all units vs 2 cords for each unit? is this right thanks.

Yes you are correct thanks for clearing that up. I was running out the door as I posted.

Does anyone have any experience with this light. I just bought one.

I'm currently running an old model Chinese led witch is 120 - 1 watts leds with a 1-1 ratio its worked great so far.

That ebay light has a good ratio of leds, but it isn't dimmable, and is more expensive than it should be.

It is basically this:
