chinese led lights

There are two drivers, one for whites and one for blues with 24 LEDs on each, currently the fixture is 1:1 white/blue. The drivers are each labeled as you see below...

I just disassembled the face of the fixture to see how easy it would be. Several screws and a few lenses later...

Very easy to disassemble/reassemble and the leads are very accessible for soldering.

The problem is, those are running in parallel. You can't mix colors or different LEDs, because they have different forward voltages. There are also resistors/fuses being used most likely to prevent the entire string from blowing up if a led died.

"Because the LEDs are in parallel, the diode with the lowest resistance will be lit the brightest, while the other diodes will either be dimly lit or not lit at all. For this reason it is imperative that any LEDs you plan to wire in parallel have as close to equal resistances as possible. A good way to ensure this is to buy LEDs with identical model numbers and colors."

The Novas and d120s are nice in that they use high voltage drivers in series, which basically allows you to swap any led color. High voltage drivers are more dangerous however, so take safety precautions.

They're still working it out. Since Reef Central members have bought quite a few fixtures from them, they're going to offer a promotional discount for Reef Central members for the first round of lights, which is very cool of them.

If they can do it, it will be a competitive price. I'm hoping for $250-$300.. but if they can get it lower that would rock too.

Bhazard, your killing me. Now I cant wait for you to get those lights. You shouldn't have told us they were shipped. Now the suspense is killing me. And I know I have to wait another week now. Lol.

You wont have to wait long. They ship incredibly quick... less than 3 days. I'll have it up and running the same day I get it, and I'll take PAR measurements when I get that too. Keep in mind I have a custom ratio, and all custom ratios will measure differently. Pricing will be key.

I was following this thread religiously every day for a while but haven't kept up lately, going to keep my halides and T5s for another year at least, so I'm not sure if this has been covered or not.

What would be the best layout on a D120 for a refugium/macro algae planted tank? I'm upgrading my fuge to a 40 breeder and wanted to try out some of the different macro aglae. I'm thinking lots of 3500k and 6500k and some reds. Was going to go with a 36" T5 and some GE 6500k bulbs but figure this could be a better option.

Has anyone done a layout specifically for a refugium yet?

Just saw this. A PAR38 bulb made for growing algae.

As promised I took a photo of the growth im getting with these lights (D120) close to 3 months.

Unfortunately my camera skills are lacking.

This photo is from November of last year. so not all of this growth is the new lights, but most of it is.

I've circled the two coral that weren't growing under my old tired halides\T5 combo.

I know the white balance is way off on this second photo. like i said my photo skills are lacking.
Unfortunately this is the only photo i have to use for comparison.

Also i just finished installing more royal blues.
My fixture is now:
D120
55 total
46 RB
9 CW
I really like the look

Awesome! 46RB and 9CW? 5:1? Wow you must really like the 20-22k look.

LOL yeah I do like it blue :)

My reason for posting the pics was to show the growth with mostly RB if anyone was wondering.

Those picks look wayyy more blue then in person.

They look very promising. If they can hit near $250 shipped, that would be pretty awesome for a light with a sunrise/sunset controller, with lcd, with wireless remote control, with optics, with moonlights, with an aluminum heatsink, and DIY layout capable. It would be nearly half the price of an AI fixture (minus the crazy colors, thunderstorms and software), and $150 under the Maxspect Razor 120w.

Mine d120 shipped last night. I ordered
Dimmer 1: 24 Royal Blue, 4 violet
Dimmer two: 2 royal blues, 3 blue(460), 3 cool white, 11 netrual white, 2 warm white, 2 green , 4 red
Ill see how it looks.
Ill post pics when I get it.

I have 5 of the Tao tronics based set ups with the 3 w epistar (taiwan) chips on my 125, use to have only 3. When I had the 3 only I used a lab grade meter that measured in microeinstiens and with the lights hanging 5 inches above the water with no optics par was over 500 a foot down in the tank and fell off from there 220 to 300 on the sand with 5 of them it is 300 everywhere on the sand and have no problem growing sps, also they came with a 3 yr warranty

Looks like I'll have the new light to review by Tues., unless they deliver on Labor Day :) Shipping is lightning quick, even on a weekend. To give you a hint as to how quick... the light shipped from Hong Kong on 9/1.

I have a 24g aquapod and already have an LED light on it. The ratio is 1:1
60 blue and 60 white. They are 1 watt each and I'm going to get 3 watt leds.

I think the one I want is the Evergrow and this is it.

Do you think that the color setup on the first image showing it lit up would be alright?

Since I will be mounting the light about 4in above the water in a canopy, that I should get the optics for it or not? I'm thinking because the light will be on a nano that no optics would be better.

I'm open to any input you guys offer. Thank you.

Looks fine to me.

Remember to specify 3w LEDs, As the link mentions 1w for some reason.

They also have a new light with a built in controller and moonlights that is coming out.

Anyone else notice any color morphs using the D120? I have a piece of ATL green plating monti w/pink polyps that has turned a bluish purple. I think it looks good and healthy was just wondering If anybody else had any change of colors.. It's been around 2 months.

How long have you been using them?
