Thanks for the website...

Same lights and closer to California for you. The owner used to work on corporate jets with me years ago, then left to start a business. We have an area facebook group and he is always helping people out, often driving to their houses to lend his time and support. He just started selling these about 3 or 4 weeks ago. Several people that have bought them are very happy. They are more expensive than the novas or d120s but they use Cree 3w and 5w LEDs and have a lot of programmable features including a remote control to adjust lighting. The guys name is Randy and he will take care of all warranty work (if needed) without shipping the units to China.

Comparison:

d120 (no optics): Notice how the wall has a ton of light on it

Nova A4 (upgraded driver at 75%):

My d120 is 5" above the rim of the tank that is about 5 3/4" above the water and i don't have any overspill like that at all. and my tank is 30"x12" and 18" deep.

I think you have that d120 way too high. But i see you are lowering it.

And being you can put the d120 lower to the water it is great for putting in a canopy.

That is really good to know. The only problem is, if I get two of these, it will put me way out of my price range. Thx. for the info.

So buazzard.. Oops orry for spelling. iPhone is a pain. Aappollo or nova. Which one u like best?

The US Apollo Solarbrite needs a controller like the Apex to work. So far, thats the best option for Apex users.

The Cidly Apollo light from china is just a Nova that doesn't have a dimmer. Having a dimmer is one of the better reasons of using leds.

^^^ I have that same brand of fixture over top of my 20 long. If I were you I would pull the glass and mount the fixtures higher. For me it gave a better spread and it is noticeably brighter.

I picked up the same model light you are referencing yesterday and set it ontop of by BC29. I only had them change the whites to all nuetral and that was the only customization I had done and it was $227 shipped with a leg kit.

Ill give you my novice first impression:

-The leg kit is not going to win any prizes for aesthetics, but it works and is adjustable (and only $10 extra).

-I do agree that the power switches could be a little better thought out as mentioned in other posts but I have not automated anything in my tank yet and I dont think its a deal breaker.

-The moonlights are stronger than I expected. Im not sure they give a realistic "moon-lit" look. Maybe a dimmer for these too?

-The dimmers do 'click' off when turned all the way counter clockwise. So if you didnt like the red, green or violet you can turn it off completely.

-I did get some disco ball effect on the sandbed with the red and green lights on.

-I really liked the shimmer!!

-The adjustablilty between dark windex blue and yellowy-white are there to suit your liking.

I wish I had more colors in my tank to reference but I'm letting everything settle a bit more before I start adding corals.

I look back on this review and it almost sounds like I am giving it a negative review. I want to be clear that after day one I am very happy with the purchase:bigeyes: I guess I pointed out some things that I wasnt expecting.

I am very excited about this and after day one would do it again!
an

Thank you for the review Cappy! I am guessing you have the three switches so that you can manage the green and red on one, with the moon on another, and the rest on a third? Do you have the link you ordered from so that I may look it over? Thanks again!

jjim, i believe cappy bought the fixture with the standard configuration of 2 power switches with 3 dimmers. first power switch controls all 3 dimmers. second power switch controls the moonlight. the only change from the original set up is that he chose neutral whites instead of the other white LEDs.

i would like to see some pictures of the fixture and the reef tank with lights on. i would also like to know the number of inches above water line, tank dimensions and the coverage footprint.

How do you know what will work for your tank, I have a standard 100 gal with softy and LPS only. I have 3 250w MH over it now would love to switch to led. Would need to be a retro. Thanks

This is a little more info they emailed me on the light i purchased thisMore information of led:

1) Power: 120W
5) Lumens:2420lm

Are you sure about those lumens? Are you perhaps missing a digit? A 23 watt typical fluorescent bulb emits 1500+ lumens and a 250w halide emits something like 23,000 lumens.

These all look great so far. Keep the reviews and pics coming. The Eshines look nice and bright, and Legg's tank looks nearly perfect... not too white, not too blue.

Although it doesn't do much for coral, I'm liking the extra pop in color from the red/green/cyan/blue/violets for asthetics. My Fire Shrimp, zoos, and Maroon Clownfish really pop in color now. They almost look radioactive.

I'm going to sell/ebay my led boards and upgraded drivers for the Nova, and use the rest of the internals for a DIY Cree XT-E / Luxeon fixture.

This thread has been very helpful for me and a lot of other people, as I started out just looking for a led fixture that wasn't outrageous in cost. Now, after getting an Apex and learning a lot from here and seeing different fixtures, I'm confident in tailoring my own top of the line DIY Apex compatible fixture.

That was what she wrote me . But I do see in the other description 5500 ( Lms all ) which my guess is 2420 lm on each driver .
