This was my other option but then I was concerned about the blue:white mix on dimmer 1 and 2.

OK guys if I am planning on having a mixed reef setup, soft, sps, lps would I be fine with a 14k equivalent fixture? Just want to confirm so I can figure out what B:W ratio I need to zero in on. That will then dictate what room I have to add other colors.

I take back what I said about reds and greens growing algae quicker. I ran a test by only using one channel of royal blue today, and it grew the same algae that I thought was being caused by my reds and greens. They might promote some algae growth, but the colors are too nice when done right, and rb can grow algae just as quick anyway.

So would you recommend royal blues, cool whites, with violets, reds, and greens; or add in neutral and warm whites as well?

Go for broke and try them all. There are so many different combos that can work well.

I prefer neutral and warm whites, but you can mix some cool whites in with them too if desired.

2:1 Royal blue to Neutral and Warm Whites. 2-3 reds, 2-3 greens, 4-6 violets. I'm still a bit skeptical if greens are needed, because the Apollo Reef led fixture just used reds and violets and it looks great.

I am setting up a 40b and am looking into these lamps. Would you all suggest one or two units? I plan on building a canopy if it makes a difference.

Hoity, would be interested to see how they laid out your leds. Can you please post a pic of your light? I saw in an earlier post that you had emailed me looking for a layout. I have not received that email, but what layout were you looking for?
Mlott i think i have managed to attach the layout. This is the layout that Twilight suggested i should use. I supplied them with a breakdon on the number and colour of leds and which channel. Twilight layed yhem out and asked for confirmation before procedding. I have had nothing but excellent customer service, Lyn was my contact and it is unfortunate that it has not been the same for everyone!

The photo of the lights is not the clearest, f2.8 does that to you. Unlike looking at the light directly the photo shows you the different blues.

I am very happy with the colour, spread and power, my tank is 26" deep and without a par meter i would say i am getting plenty of penetration. I am going to reduce the white channel back to a max of 65%.

Mu oncern would be that tou have too much white snce your using both 6,500K and 4,000K. I like a ratio of about 3 Blue to one 1 White using neutyral whites of about 5,000K. Your first plan should be fine unless your using shatp angled Lenses.

I'm having great performanxe and love the effect of my home home built sustem on my 40 breeder frag tanks. Basicly running 24 LED's at 2.7 Watts each for a total of 65 watts.

6 Neutral Whites
2 Green
8 Blue 470 nm
8 Royal Blue 455 nm

I did have 2 420 nm LED's but they caused to purple of an effect and I pulled them. Growth is equivelent to when I had 4 , 39 watt T-6's at a total of 153 watts total.

Remember though what is too blue fot Johnny might not be blue enough for Jacj. There is a lot of personal color preference involved here.

I would agree with you that Lyn is great do deal with. Throughout this whole process he has always said that they would do what it takes to make sure I am happy with the light at their cost.
What degree optics are you running? My original light was setup with 60 degree beam angle LEDs, I did not have optic lenses on it, and I am thinking of changing to 90 degree beam angle. I have a standard 75 gallon tank, so I am thinking that the 90's will help the color mix.

That is a nice layout, much better than what I got. Make sure to post a FTS, as it probably looks really nice all together.

Did you ever post pics of these leds you built? I used a lot of your advice in making my own, and it looks fantastic.

Yes I concur, we need more tank shots. I understand the colors don't come out exactly right etc. but it gives the rest of us a reference.

I want to order but I'm frozen in place because I want the light exactly like I want it and I don't know what that is. T-5 is easy, replace bulbs...led not so much.

I'm thinking I'll be happy with one of those evergrow with red/green and then split up the whites to neutral and warm, but my mind changes every day it seems.:headwalls:

More tank shots would be most helpful! :wavehand:

Did you try red?

Try to wait until the end of the month. They may have another model coming out soon to choose from.
