Was wondering the same thing I really like the lights most recently posted, dimmable and cheaper than the others do far..... We may be on to something here being able to dictate the market a bit![]()
Looks pretty good to me. Why the change from a Cree DIY fixture?
Hi guys,
I'm a new reefer and I just picked up a 55 gallon saltwater tank. I'm looking to have a bunch of corals and fish in there.
I'm looking to upgrade the lighting system (currently has 6 compact fluorescents).
From what I've seen, people order either the 30B, 15W, 4V, 4R, 2G or the 34B, 17W, 4V.

What do you guys think will be best? Or is there something else I should try?
Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks everyone!
I'm still in the market for some led lights and waiting for the recovery of my bankaccount after the summerholidays.
Did anyone try these light?

I've requested some info and got a quick response.
36" programmable 192 Watt costs 428 usd...
The seller also send me a pdf document that I will post tomorrow somehow if anyone is interested.
In the PDF they say cree-Xpe/bridgelux.
If you pm me your email, I'll send you the PDF if you think its worthwhile.
I don't quite see how a Maxspect Razor runs circles around it?
Sure its got a nice design.
It also has more colors, but what I saw in a picture someone posted around here you can see every individual color led shining on your bottom making nice colored circles.
The layout of the razor is slightly less appealing for me since the lights are concentrated in three spots instead of being spread over 90cm (my tank is 100cm).
2:1 blue to white ratios only provide a crisp 14k look if you use Neutral Whites, not the Cool Whites the majority of the fixtures come with. Cool Whites have a ton of blue in them already, so adding twice the blue on top of it creates the windex look.
Maxspect is running new generation Crees at nearly 5w each. This one uses 2+ yr old Crees at ~3w, if they are even real Crees, and doesn't use actinic violet leds unless you get the bridgelux unit.
The 55x3w d120 boxes are almost 1/4th the price as well. You can run three and have much more power and spread for the same price. If you're worried about spotlighting and colored circles, you'd want 165 leds, not 64. Not having enough leds, and having them widely spread out causes this.
Any recommendations on other complete LED fixtures for a 55 gallon tank with fish and corals? I'm as rookie as they come and tried to read through the thread but I figured it'd be easier to just ask!
Thanks guys.
Roger
There are tons of options between these and commercial fixtures, and you need to ask yourself a few things.
How much are you looking to spend? What features do you want? Is sunrise/sunset auto dimming a must have, or are you ok with manual dimming knobs? What comparable MH bulb color are you looking to achieve? Do you want/need moonlights... etc.
