chinese led lights

I went with the Twilight units that had the built-in timmer/dimmer with moonlights. I know that evergrow is going to release a similar fixture towards the end of the month. Just make sure that you confirm the LED placement before your order. Otherwise it will be a crap shoot to what your light is going to look like. I would think that one of these type fixtures should be enough to cover your tank.

Have you gotten yours in and on your tank yet?

Not trying to spend TOO MUCH but if something is a fair price, I'm ok with that. Sunrise/Sunet auto dimming is not a must have, okay with manual dimming knobs.

Not sure about MH bulb color as I only have crappy compact fluorescents.

So 2:1 probably isn't good for these chinese fixtures, should I go 1:1?

you really need to think in terms of a complete light spectrum. look at a good ATI or Geisemann Spectra. Is is 2 to 1 blue and white only? No, not really. Blue is good, but mix in some blue violet and a little UV 395 to 410. Also, lower on the Kelvin for white is better than the 14k and higher, what bhazard is alluding to in his previous post.

It's not that its better, its just more visually appealing to me. Cool White alone leaves a lot to be desired in overall coloration of the tank. Neutral and Warm White leds help boost it a bit, as well as a few other colored leds here and there.

Someone in the Kessil thread mentioned how the normal Blue/White kessil look was ok, but everything looked much better when a 6500k Kessil was added right next to it. Same concept.

I have not. I was not happy with the placement of the LEDs that Twilight did. I am currently in the process of getting both of my lights replaced. This time I am sending them a layout design. I did not last time and the color was awful. They are not bad lights by any means just need to tell them where to put the colors. I know there are a couple other people that have ordered from Twilight and have their lights setup. If you go a few pages back I think you will find their posts. Look for zoanut and hoity.

Just wanted to post an updated tank shot of my nano with the nova a4. I really wish I had a real camera to capture the real colors of my tank.

This light brings out all the colors nicely. I have a little bit of everything in this tank so see how all type of corals react to it. My SPS are doing amazing and the colors are are becoming more amazing as the day go by. My acans, favia, and zoo are growing really quickly and colors look great under this fixture. Not just the greens, but the reds, pinks, yellows and oranges. I have a small frag of Kenya tree and pom-pom Xenia but I will remove them shortly because they are growing way to quickly for my liking. I am definitely pleased with this light and for the money I saved it makes me like it even more.

Looks like I might have some Twilight fixtures to sell here shortly. The cost of shipping the lights back to China is astronomical. So They are letting me keep my old lights and sending me new ones for a deep discount. I am asking them to send me a couple loose LEDs so that I can correct their mistake on the layout. Then I will be putting them up for sale. Don't make the same mistake that bhazard and I made, make sure you specify the layout of the colors before ordering.

That's awesome. I love my Nova.

Did you get extra led colors, or just the standard blue/white?

Thanks. I am really happy with the color results. My light has 24x royal blue, 20x 12000k white, and 4x 400nm
Being a former ATI 8-bulb t5 fan, i would say my colors look much better than before.

This is the latest ratio I'm going to try. It won't have red/green installed initially. I will run one with red/green, and one without to see what I like better over my 120 gallon. This is also a teaser for the new Evergrow light (Bridgelux version). Yes, those are moonlights on D1.

D1: 3pcs 450 moonlight
D2: 18pcs 450 + 6pcs 470
D3: 10pcs 6500K + 8pcs 3500K + 4pcs 10000K + 6pcs 420

This is the newest layout I'm going to try. They did a very good job of mixing and blending everything. The key in this test is to see if red/green are needed if you use low kelvin whites instead. It is also to see how low K whites perform over 10k and up Cool Whites normally used.

yeah im with you oscar, I feel like i need an engineering degree to understand what colors to get. I just dont want anything too blue i like the color of my t5. I run 2 actinic, 2 uv, 1 blue plus and a 10k white. not sure what to leds would make that same color.

whats better my 8 bulb t5s or switch to leds i need to replace my yearly bulbs so thats why i am asking for some advice here

all the expensive leds and all these cheap Chinese leds im confused

LEDs offer much more flexibility than just a one color bulb. Many led combos can create a 10k or 14k MH bulb color. If you're confused and just want to keep it simple, just get a fixture with around the same amount of whites and blues, with around 4-6 actinic LEDs in it. Quite a few people have ordered one like this.

Check out the value fixtures at reefbreeders.com to see what the lights look like when other led colors are added in.

If this version you are ordering comes with a built in timer please tell me how much. I'll go in with you. Maybe you can start a group buy and we can all get a discount?

What do you think?

Chris

whats better my 8 bulb t5s or switch to leds i need to replace my yearly bulbs so thats why i am asking for some advice here

When I bought mine I was in the same boat. Yearly bulb changes seemed like a waste of money and this thread does cover a lot of ground so it can get confusining in here. However, I personally would recommend getting the LED's the d120 or if you want to spend a little more the nova a4's. Both are great lights and with the dimmer you can adjust them to meet your color preference. Also, depending on what t5 you have, one bulb change could pay for at least 1 d120. I got 2:1 in my 2 - d120 that I had over a 5' frag tank and they looked great. My 150 had 3 - a4's that replaced my ATI 80x8. And as you can see by the pic on the previous page I am using on of my a4 over a 12g nano. I have to keep my dimmers pretty low so I don't fry my coral but it shows how virsitail the lights can be.

Thank You all for your research. I believe I have narrowed my choice to 2 D120's. Im looking for 12-14K look, not too blue.

Sunny recommended the 26b 4violet 25 white, does this sound about right?
