I know there was a site posted for Long Island Water quality control, but I can't find it now,
I'm curious about Chloramine in our water.

there is also a place "hidden" on thier site which you type in your zip code and it gives you the readings for your area.. But I can't remember where I found it .

Well, that's Suffolk County and NYC. Two out of three ain't bad ;)
I really need info from Nassau. Used to be Long Island Water, now American Water.

Last I knew, chloramines aren't being used on LI, Nassau or Suffolk. A quick and dirty test would be to hit a sample of tap water with a dechlorinator and then test it for ammonia ;)

Hi from a neighboring club (CTARS)! Even if the water company only puts in chlorine, it can react with organics in the water to produce chloramines (this is what happens in pool water, the chlorine breaks down the organics and bonds with ammonia to form chloramine). So you may get chloramines even if the company doesn't specifically add it, depending on whether there are organics in the water.

If you add dechlorinator to tapwater with chloramine in it, you won't have ammonia in the water anymore, but will have ammonium.

Depending on the test kit, you can measure ammonia right out of the tap if it contains chloramine. The kit I use to test ammonia in tap, tank and RO water is made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals.

Our tapwater is treated with chloramine. Straight out of the tap, without dechlorination, it measures about 1 ppm.

I spoke to my village water department late last year and inquired about the usage of chloramine and I was told that they will start adding it to the water supply in Mineola some time this year.

I should ask one of my coworkers. But then again with the exception of that i already know whats added to the water. (Caustic soda and chlorine) If you ever saw the inside of the water mains you would probably never drink it again LOL

Now you did it, I have to admit that I am a computer idiot. That's the information I'm looking for, but the graph is on it's side, and I'm getting a headach trying to read it. How do I get it to rotate without spinning my monitor?
