My son Alex bought a nice red star from Tim at the frag meet at Nate's. His eel thought that it was food..........

my little red star was eaten by my **m crabs so they got fed to my lunar wrasse guess who's laughing now lol

The little red star that Tim was selling was a Fromia Milleopora, an omnivore, primarily algae, chunks of shrimp ,etc. Size for them is about 5 inches, maybe a tad more in the captive environs. They are considered to be reef safe but I think we have learned that is not written in stone for any animal we place in our tanks.

Chocolate Chip stars are a different animal, They are not considered to be reef safe since they tend to eat corals, particularly soft corals, clams, and oysters.
There are some fish and inverts ,such as Harlequins or other crabs, crustacean that consider them dinner and will make short work of the CC Star.
If you do keep them it should species type tank and they can be fed meaty items such as shrimp, fish, and clams
