Christmas Favia Coloration?

Say no to clove polyps
For those of you keeping them, what lighting are you using? Do they need more high light or lower light? I've never been able to get a good coloration like I see in some pics on here. Some pics of yours will be greatly appreciated.

Here's mine, I've never been able to get the dark red center like I see on some.

From what I've seen they tend to like lower, bluer light. Have seen some great ones on the sand bed of 20k/LED tanks :)

I keep mine in the sand shaded by a frag rock.

I found that no matter where i keep them in my tank, if they aren't shaded, they start to bleach out.

Thanks for the replies. Very nice corals! That's the idea I was getting so I moved it from the bright leds to the t5s. After a couple of months under the t5s the color was even less so I moved it back to the leds and the little color I had is coming back again. I wish I could get mine to look like the pics in this thread.

+4, I think. LOL Mine was on the sandbed in the old reef. It seemed happy there, bluse my ocellaris clown didn't bother things on the sand..

I just got a frag of this coral and I was wondering if it is an encrusting type or will it grow by itself on the sand? Just wondering if I should but it on a rock or not :)

I kept mine on the sanbed and it grew. I did however have a light dusting of puca shell on top though. The tissue needs something to grab onto, so fine sand might not work out to well. Placing it on a rock will also work, it just needs to be in constant contact. No fiddling with it. It might take awhile but it will encrust.

lower light best for mine also, I recently did a lights out for 3 days to rid my tank of some cyano, and all my corals did fine but did see a little bleaching on the christmas favia. A few days later it was fine.
