Ok,
Here is the story. I am out of tanks for probably 6-7 years after selling my 180gallon that I purchased to get rid of the other 10 tanks scattered through the house.
I decide to get back into this and go for a dream/reef tank with as little maintenance as possible.
Silly me.
Long story short. I decided to use the recipe for the 120gallon package. Dream tank. My fish guy that I hired to rehabilitate the tank said that it was the best engineered home hobbyist reef tank that he had ever seen.
Thanks! Reef Central! Couldn't have done it without you guys.
You would not believe the life that was on this rock when it was shipped.
Here's the tip. Don't even think of putting the rock in your tank until you get every last hitchhiker out.
Mine was an extreme case that I'm sure doesn't happen to everyone. I had 4 mantis shrimps, a mexican lobster, gorilla crabs, and more I'm sure. I got most everything out within the first couple weeks.
Next thing I know I get critically ill. Feeling better, but will be years until the transplant.
My tank went down. Between maintenance that was tough to stay on top of in my health situation and the damn lobster that just decimated my tank. I only just got him out a few weeks ago.
I bought my live rock in early 2006 about.
I e-mailed Richard to purchase a critter recipe since the lobster killed every snail and just about every blue leg in the tank. I wanted to get my tank back to it's former glory.
I wanted to get everything up and running slowly and didn't want to nickle and dime the critter process at the local LFS. Not to mention the medical bills priority over reef tank.
Richard didn't know I was sick. All he knew was my tank was in sad shape. He said no problem we will give you the package price on the critters
I go to the airport and get the box. There was more than just critters in the box. I had asked for an anenome, scallops, and a couple red mithrax crabs. Christmas in January!
I received sponges, a gorgonian, a decorator crab that is just about the coolest thing that I have ever had. Covered in sponges and just great to watch. Branch sponges and balls/pieces.
I had starting adding corals and fish before, but this just made my tank look great. The rock is already starting to look better and life is coming back where there was only devastation before.
This was not Tampa Bay Saltwater's fault. It was mine for not getting the hitchhikers out sooner and not staying on top of my chemistry and water changes. I should hired the fish guy for help on the chemistry a year ago.
I read that Florida rock is denser or there is too much hassle or that just plant concrete rock. It's all bull.
You cannot go wrong with buying from TBS. You can go wrong if misdirected. And he warns you, your rock will die. He sends you in the right direction.
This has totally picked up my mental health when I really needed it and gave me a purpose. Get the tank back and rocking.
When the rest of the world and customer service across the country is at an all time low. You can still have a great buying experience.
If I did it all over again, I would buy from TBS again. How could I go wrong?
