Btw, how high above your return pump will you place the gate valves? Also, I think you should put the gate above the check valve. You can close the pipe but still be able to clean the check valve.

Reef of flames.... I have to be patient because I am missing parts and oh yea, money..... I put the check valves in last because if I have to shut off to fix anything at all, I can just shut down that individual return line. Yours is a good idea though and I appreciate the ideas and input....

OK more progress today. Today has been a good day.
So this is the back of my return line control panels
This is the front of my return line control panels
I think it looks pretty cool..... I still need to laminate the panel white so that it look real clean.
Here is what it looks like installed (minus the white PLAM)
Here is the back of the panel installed. Just need to install the flex line to it and I am pretty close to ready from the return line stand point.
By The Way: There will be a matching panel for the drain lines..... Stay Tuned.....

Randy, I love the LaMarck Angel too. I bought one awhile back. It was a baby and the body wasn'nt any bigger than a quarter - fifty cent piece. Being from the genicanthus family and called a planktivore and reef safe I took the gamble. I released the fish in the tank and it didn't take 60 seconds until it started nipping at my acans.

Rik, The mullins lamark's are about 3 years old. Fat and Healthy... However.... I can't remember if they have acans in the tank.... I will need to check that out. Thanks for the heads up.

My current Lee Mar 90 has just one check valve. No Gate valve....
I put the manifold on the return. I was real happy with that, but, it makes noise due to bubbles on the chiller outlet... But, back to your point.... I never really realized how the check valves can get dirty.... Mostly from the light. On my current tank, the valve is right under the fuge light.... So, it grew algae in it and ultimately doesn't really work.
That is part of the reason I am shielding all of the valves.... Light and dust.... I want to make it easier to clean.

Reef of flames. I am planning that right now. As soon as I have it drawn I will post for input from everyone.
Mike. I really like my current sump. But, I don't like the way the drains work with the sock. I want to put the drains in so they never have to be moved. Basically I want the drains to flow into a chamber that fills up and then flows into the sock. If the socks clog, I will have a over flow. I am drawing it right now in sketch up so hopefully it will make sense.

Well. The pump came. It is really cool. I think the thing I like the most, besides the electric consumption, Is the fact that it has a soft start motor. It slowly ramps to the final speed plus it remembers its last setting. So I can use it with my apex in feed mode.
It also has a variety of return sizes to hook to it.
It also has a cool easy on easy of strainer.
I probably have to go to Phoenix this weekend so I probably won't get to work to much on it.
I also have two jebao 40's in Phoenix waiting for me from a group buy.
I don't know if I will like those or not. We will see.
I will try to post pics of my sump design tomorrow for input.
I will also take a picture of the pump.

Why not just use a 40g breeder as a sump? 36"x18"x18". It's basically what you want...

So here is what I am thinking about for a sump.... I will probably lower the baffles so that I can have more reserve when the tank is in feed mode.

That sump design is really similar to mine, but I don't have the section for the filter sock.
