Chromis with an anal blockage

[Stumped]

Right now I have a chromis that appears to be impacted. He isn't eating and there is a definite mass/bulge at his anus. The chromis has been in the tank 1.5+ years and there have been no new additions of any sort (coral or otherwise).

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to help him out? It would be a shame if he died from something like this.

I hate to post and offer nothing-but by the same token I hate for you to be alone in this. The situation is not good. First off- we don`t know what is wrong with the fish- nor will we without a necropsy. You could be correct about impaction- could be parasite-although less likely, could be any number of internal illnesses or congenital defects, could be a bacterial or viral infection .could be gravid-or eggbound. Its easy to guess what a external parasite is- be wrong and still effect a treatment- as many of the treatments will work on many parasites. But with internal situations- you are limited mostly to stool floats and necropsy. All I can offer is keep him in a low stress situation.

Thanks for the reply. He has extremely passive tankmates and I did a water change just because there isn't much else I can think of that I can do.

Sadly he passed away today. I figured this was the most likely outcome since he showed no improvement. I have no idea what caused his death though.
