Chromis

Hello, i've seen that question a lot of times, but i would like to Read some opinions.
Next week i am going to start a 60G. reef tank.
i love chromis viridis and i think 5 would do very well in my new tank.
Although i ve read a lot of threads with people saying that they will kill themselves and u finish to stay with one or two in the tank.
Write your experiences please!
thanks!

5 will do good, they school for protection. only sick or injured usually are pushed from the school. they are an agressive species. Damnsel family. REEF-ON!!!

I agree- 5 will be fine. Just realize, they will establish a pecking order, and will likely pick on one another to maintain it. But with enough hiding spot, feed, and good water, they should be fine.

If there's something that 'pushes' them, a bully, like a big damsel, they will tend to stay in school---I ran a school of 7 in a 100 g, because I had several nasty damsels.

On the other hand, in my 52, I have only one small blue chromis, who is getting fat and is king of his little world. Only one chromis in a school tends to have really high color, the dominant, the rest being somewhat paler. My single just glows.

thanks a lot, for writing your experiences!
so Sk8r u sugest that i have to put any agressive fish in my tank like a damsel to maintain the school? so they will be afraid and maintain the school?

I would disagree. In my tank, I have a square anthia who keeps all the chromis in the rocks. No schooling, that went bye bye after the anthia got comfy. Im sure this works in some tanks, but it could just as easily go my way where the chromis all but disappear.

i have three blue green chromis and one scalefin anthias. the three chromis school together but they don't act agressive or anything. The scalefin anthias is not agressive to them either. i guess it just depends on the fishes individual personalities.

if you are not planning on putting in many other fish i would say put more chromis. i got 5 in may last year and 5 more in december. they all get along fine. one is a little larger than the rest but they all have bright colour. there is no other dominant fish that stays out in the tank and the chromis always school. they never seem to go more than 6-7 inches from the group. i took a few pics that came out good but i need someone to help me make the file size smaller so i can upload it. eventually i will put it in my gallery or if this thread is still here i will post it.

i had 5 now down to 4 and they are schooling pretty often but i would like to add more as i recently made the move from a 110 to a 180... if i buy more they will be about half the size of the ones that i have now would it be safe to add more chromis?
