Well the last few weeks have went by with a few highs and lows. The holiday season treated me well and I ended up with a few more books on the saltwater hobby. Specifically, Reef Fishes Vol. 1, The Reef Aquarium Vol. 2, and Algae: A Problem Solver Guide. All look to be good reads, but I haven't had the time to dive into them just yet.
I'm still playing with my ozone and skimmer settings, trying to get the exact match up of O3 and Skimmate production. I have no hard opinions on ozone, yet.
My coralline algae is growing in nicely and things are looking good in that department. My cleanup crew has done an amazing job of cleaning off all the rocks and glass.
I was able to make a quick stop at a LFS on the 29th of Decemeber and I picked up a few new Corals for my tank. 2 Red/Yellow Gorgonians, and 1 Green/Pink Trachyphilia (Brain Coral). So far they seem to be doing great.
I also picked up 2 Elegance corals, which I didn't know much about and the LFS dude told me they were fairly easy to keep as long as you fed them well and didn't dose any iodine. Well that seemed alright, except for the fact he never mentioned that 98% of Elegance corals don't survive due to some strange condition they develope when in an Aquarium. So ofcourse after doing some more researching I find out that mine are showing the 'short tentacle, expanded body' condition. I'll enjoy them while they last, but I fear the worst. No longer am I taking the word of 'any' LFS employee.
I also ordered a new camera which should be here in a few days. It's a Canon S2 IS, so I should be able to take some awesome pictures of my corals and tank compared to what this 3.1MP Kodak can do.
The major PITA news came last night when I noticed that 2 of my 4 bulkheads under the tank are cracked and leaking! Extremely slow drips, but drips never-the-less. These bulkheads are schedule 80 and look like the ones on Salvko's site, but they are grey. I never tightened with a wrench and they lasted 6 months, and then all of a sudden they are leaking? Crap. I did some investigating and ordered what are suppose to be the best bulkheads in the world. Haywards. With any luck I'll have them this week and installed by the weekend.
My shroud is 99% done being painted and will be fully installed by the weekend as well. It looks very good, and gives the tank that 'finished' look. My mom (who likes to paint) did most of the work painting it, so that was awesome! I'm not much for painting...
Anyhow, that's where things sit and here's some pictures!
