Chrysopterus in the 120g now

i wouldnt think anemone type would make a difference. my beautiful pair came with the heteractis crispa they were allegedly collected with...and their color faded to drab within two weeks. all of the solomon island varieties, similar to yours, ive had have lost all their yellow and turned essentially black as well...

Bluezoo said that these came from the Marshal islands. I think I read in the book anemone fishes and their host anemones that. If put with a H.Crispa they have been known to have dull colors. I know..:p don't believe everything you read.

Ok Question for you guys.. Which picture do you think is better? Or do you think I need to take more? Be honest:)

I like the second one better, mainly because the stripe in the first one is a bit off -- maybe the fish moved.

Yeah I guess the second one is a bit clearer..thanks toddrtrex:)
btw thanks for the help on the pricing on my plta. Also, for telling me I could keep it with a haddoni. TYVM

Sure thing. Does your camera allow you to change the shutter speed?

Glad that I could help, and you better let me know how that goes.

I got them from bluezooaquatics.com ..the male was $24.99 and the female was $38.95 plus shipping so it was $103.89

Jordan asked me to post this, so here it goes

Well lets see, I knew that chysopterus are known for brook so I used my 29 for a QT.
List of stuff I had in the QT.
air stone
pvc pipes..these were soon replaced with a fake aquascape.
heater
power head
aquaclear for filtration

I did water changes once every three days.

At first I had live rock and sand in there but then was told by RS that its bad to have live rock and sand in the QT.
The reasons are
you can't dose any meds,
rocks and sand absorb meds,
you could kill what is alive in the rocks and sand,
and these things in the tank could make the copper treatment toxic.

A week after I received the fish, they started showing signs of ich. I did all the other natural treatments but they didn't work. I was told by many clown owners that cupramine is safe for sensitive fish and very affective. I had to do some thing, my poor fish were suffering.
I bought a salifert copper tester, measured the cupramine in ML not drops. I dosed the tank to the reccomended concentration of 0.5 mg/L over a couple of days. Then I started to notice the fish were getting relief in a couple of hours. In a few days they were spot free.
I was only suppose to keep them in the QT for 8 weeks. Its to make sure the fish are completely ich free.
Just when it was getting close to the time to add them to the 120. The middle plastic brace of my 120 had a crack in it and was about to let go. So we put all the fish in a new 56gallon. The 120 was replaced, then we put the rock and the corals back in the tank. Thats when I decided it was a great time to make sure the 120 didn't have any ich or other parasites in it. So for 8 weeks our 120 went fishless. 4 months waiting..it would have been only 2 months if I had the 56 gallon before I bought the chrysopterus. Looks like I didn't have to worry about ich in the display tank after all that. Because.. none of my fish showed any signs of parasites through the whole quarantine process. Oh well..better safe than sorry:)

christina, thanks! thats exactly what i wanted to hear. i wish that ich was all i had ever had to worry about when it came to newly arriving chrysopterus. you are very lucky. day three is when the labored breathing starts. if not earlier. the eyes sink in, the gills extend slightly. the fish wobbles as it swims in place.

just terrible.

i would most certainly wish ich was always what they immediately got, but sadly thats never the case. and never has a proactive, extended or theraputic dip of formalin ever done much to fix this. for me.

i am looking forward to trying out the quality of bluezoo soon though. so i appreciate the detailing of your QT procedure. thank you!

Oh yeah, I think bluezoo has great fish, they immediately started eating when I first got them..brightly colored. I am not sure if they came with ich or the live rock I got from a store in New braunfels had ich. No matter what it was they are doing well now. My LFS says they can get me a purple carpet anemone soon..I told them ..make sure its a haddoni. If its gigantea, don't bother calling..lol. They probably don't know how to ID a carpet anemone just like most fish stores around here. sigh

I just sold my pink skunk. It took a hour to seperate the pink skunk from my PLTA. So now, the purple LTA is with my Chrysopterus.. I walked away from the tank and a few minutes later they were checking out the lta. The male blue stripe is staying with the lta. The female can't make up her mind yet as to which anemone she wants to stay with. I'll take pictures of them tomorrow.

Chrysopterus with their purple M. Doreensis

They sure look nice with purple..don't you guys agree?

They keep going to the bta to give it some love then they go back to the lta ..they can't make up their minds.:rolleyes:I wonder if they would keep playing musical anemones (musical chairs) if I bought them a mertensii.:p

I can't wait till the male gets out of his juvenile phase.

Wow, those look great. Making me want to have a PLTA again.

Years ago I had BTAs with my Haddoni, my Clarkii pair would switch off during the day, with the male sleeping in the BTA and the female in the Haddoni, but they always spawned by the BTA. (( now only have the Haddoni ))

Thanks guys for the nice compliments...Jordan, you are going to get a pair of chrysopterus? Did you know reefhotspot has some available?
