The male has a belly but nothing like the female. Is it possible that they are already mating or is the female just a porker.

Yep, full w/ eggs would be my guess too.
Watch at night when main lights are off, and just actinics or moons are on, they will most likely be doing their mating dance spiraling around each other swimming to top of tank.

+1 on eggs our female looked the same last night. Keep an eye on them towards the end of your light cycle or if you have actinics come on. They generally do the practice mating spiral right before the lights go out and it is really really cool to watch.

I'll see if I can get a good photo of my mandarin when I get home. It makes yours look skinny. It is almost as wide as it is long. . .looks like its gonna pop. The funny thing is that mine cant be preg. . . its the only one in the tank! I do have a crazy pod population so I think it justs eats too much.

That's not necessarily true. I used to breed fw angels and females will become gravid even if there is no male in the tank. I think a lot of the time they will reabsorb the eggs but sometimes they will release them if they ovulate many many eggs. It's the same way in most animals even humans. A female will still ovulate and make eggs without a male. Look at chickens for instance. :)

This guy is FAT! I don't think its eggs. It's been this size for over a year.

I had to catch him today for a transfer to my 180 gal.

He was very easy to catch. They are slow to begin with but this guy has trouble even if it tries to waddle away. Pretty funny to watch. I guess I should stop feeding him Big Mac's and french fries.

Damm! Did you feed him Apple pie and sundae for desert too. :)

It looks like he's gonna pop. My tank has a bazillion pods and there is pretty much nothing else competing with him for food. The only time he was ever skinny was when there was a 6-line in the tank with him. I had to get the 6-line out due to being a bully. The Mandarin plumped back up a few weeks later and has stayed fat ever since then.
