Cipro treatment for S. haddoni

Sorry to hear that.

To know these animals to the cellular level would prob be a boost in our own wellbeing.

I hope this keep you in the positive aspect and not give up.

sorry to hear that.

there are 3 things i observed, but already been noted by someone else.

1) Sandbed. i would not do it next time, that way you can vaccumm out the dead tissues they split out. sandbed in treatment tank can do alot more harm than good. bare bottom is best.

2) I always have doubt about the dosage and the purity of the med that is made for animal. I would use only med for human.

3) prob not that important but the heater in the plastic container is a no no for me. those plastic are very very thin and does not take much to heat it and melt it. You ever touch those heater when they are on? they are actually pretty hot. so it can release some chemical into the tank. just my 2 cents.

good luck next time.

agree # 1
cant agree #2. i used the same med. same seller from ebay. my treatment went smoothly no issue.

i am sorry to hear about your beautiful Haddoni. Better luck next time. I also would recommend not put any sand in the treatmetn tank.

Unfortunate results. I have the exact same color and species nem w. the exact same problem. In fact my pics are identical to yours. his mouth is distended and puffed out. He has not eaten in almost a year. This was a result of when i moved him his foot was torn a bit. as a result the stringy stuff was exposed for a while but it appears completely healed now. Only problem is he wont eat and hasn't eaten for a very long time. I have transferred him to a hospital tank that is approx 4 gall. and am treating with cipro purchased by prescription from Drs foster and smith.
odd that they have two versions, and aquatic brand for almost 50.00 that requires no prescription or the prescription kind for approx .25 cents per 250mg capsule.

I find that the capsules are difficult to dissolve, i crush them and mix them in the current but the settling still accumulates in the corner. perhaps a mortar and pestle would be helpful? In any event I am using a half pill every day. I intend to continue until he shows signs of recovery. so far it has been about 6 days.

He has discharged a significant amount of crud, so i guess that is a good sign. I also do a 20 % water change every 3 days. It has been suggested that a fresh salt mix should be used for the water changes however as my salinity, KH, Calcium etc.. are spot on with almost undetectable nitrates and phosphates i have been using tank water. then discarding what is removed from the hospital tank.

I suspect that the above specimen suffered some other toxic trauma as it looked very healthy in the pics to suddenly die.. perhaps the plastic from the heater???

In any event I will keep you posted with results. I guess I need to start my own cipro treatment thread, although there currently is enough i am not sure of what value it would really be. If anyone has any additional suggestions not previously addressed it would be appreciated.
