Clam about to touch lobo brain

Hey guys, one of my derasa clams rapidly grown and it’s mantle is about to touch the lobo brain it is growing towards.

I tried to redirect the clam away from the coral but it always reorient itself back towards the coral. I even tried wedge a piece of small rock next to the clam to prevent it from turning towards he coral. It worked for some time, but the clam eventually pulled the rock under itself using its foot.

So how will this turn out? Should I interfere, or let the clam reorient itself if it gets stung?

The clam won't harm the lobo, other than potentially shading it.

definitely a general oversight in reefing is "how big is this going to get" encroachment is a huge issue. I personally would look at cutting the lobo free of the rock and moving it since the greater risk for moving either is damaging the clams foot.

just like at this point I would also look at moving that SPS to the right further from the clam since it is only now a tiny frag but will definitely be growing into the space occupied by the clam.

That is a beautiful Derasa. I want a striped one like that badly. I order one from LA but it did not survive the shipping. I have a large Derasa in my system. After my LTA decided to move right next to the clam I was concerned but they both get along with each other just fine. Mine also lays out over the top of my large colony of Hairy mushrooms with no issues. You can see the LTA to the LH of the clam and the mushrooms to the rh. I do not think you will have a issue with the lobo other than what was posted previously about the shading of the Lobo.

The clam will likely figure it out and move if needed but I doubt it will. My derasa liked to wander and often touched my gigantea carpet or some RBTA with no issue. I would have thought the carpet would sting but it didn't seem to bother the clam.
