Clam Advice & Suggestions

And I payed a 100$ for a small(2") squamosa on the east coast. I have yet to see a blue maxima regardless of size for under 100$ even online. If I did I would have bought it.

I got this one local for $130. It's over 5", bigger than what I wanted but worth the price. The one's this size from DD are $250 and I don't think clams ship well.

I'd watch the Blenny and Goby they have been known to nip and bother clams. As well the Pepperment shrimp can bother it.
T. Squamosa are the hardiest IMO, saying that my T. Noae has been awesome the last 1.5 years I've had him super fast grower.

I have never heard of that... Goby blowing sand into it, yes, but nipping???

Peppermint shrimp 100%.

The link posted above from live aquaria with the maxima for $69.99 is a fair price...size and colour is great....I can see a premium to $130 for a 5" plus with ultra or grade 1 colours...
Clams can ship fine if shipped properly from the source and the receiver acclimatized slowly.
Keep in mind that clams are shipped worldwide and in some countries people eat your maxima...in Dubai....your maxima cost $1.....

well I looked through RC and Google and found nothing really there.

Found a little something with about a blenny but everyone has a similar concensus that they do not affect them, or at least not too seriously. Do you happen to have some documentation to back your claims for my knowledge? If so id greatly appreciate to learn a little more!

Your google must be broken. lol Just google "goby bothering clam" lots of threads on gobies and Blennies nipping at clams or making a home inside a clam (which kills the clam)

Just snagged a 4" derasa clam from petco. Was fully open and responded to light changes. Decent price too.

Now to acclimate. Suggestions beyond floating the bag for an hour with lights off...?

You need to drip acclimate like any invert, I did mine over 2 hours. And when you got him, transfer him to the tank you want to make sure he doesn't touch air. Air bubbles in a calm are hard to remove.

Dripped for 1 hour. Clam was never exposed to air. Was opening inside the bag during the drip. Currently on the sand bed in med flow spot. Just gonna sit back and let it settle now.

Removed one of the peppermint shrimp thus far. Still working on the second lil bastard.
