clam base/mounts?

I see alot of Internet sales showing clams on an angled piece of PVC. I recently bought 2 croceas that look great from the top- not as good- through the glass- as most . I made a couple of 45deg cuts on some PVC as shown in pictures on internet. Pushed it into my substrate and clams do look better. Has any one had problems with this?

I find that regardless of how I position my clams "for my viewing comfort", they will move till they align themself to where they "feel comfortable".
I might be concerned that forcing them into a position they did not like would stress them or at least minimize their ability to photosynthesize. Of course if they are not attached to the PVC they may let you know that they don't like it by moving anyway LOL.

Day 2, as Highlander stated , they settled themselves back down , last night while looking at them, the greenest looking one had lost some of the green. I believe the light angle caused it . My Boss (wife) may have to learn to like (live with) an open top tank.
