clam bleaching?

I have a crocea clam that has varying degrees of whiteness around the edges of its mantle for the last couple of days. It seems to fluctuate a bit. The entire clam looks a bit pale too.

Are there any links to info. on clam bleaching?

either to much or to little light is what I'm guessing. 1000g tank..nice. With a crocea I'm banking on to little.

interesting point. It started about a week after I changed out a lamp. It is on top of the rockwork and about 20" below the water line. However the lamp is not directly over it. It is a 1000W lamp though. It has been under an identical lamp for over a year, and in the exact same spot. I would guess maybe too much light?

Not sure what I should do if that is the case since the lamp is already burned in by now. Nothing else around it seems to be affected either and there is a cali tort that reaches up about 8" above it.

Here is an old (2-12-07) shot of the clam:

don't suppose you changed water the same time you changed the bulb, I've heard of corals and stuff bleaching out real bad, any of your corals losing color at all? I would go with to much light, at least it sounds like that since the light it burned in I would leave it be the clam should get better. Other than a little faded is it extended, got any pictures of it now?

jsl6v8: I do regular water changes but did not do it the week I changed the bulb. I have lost most of my montipora recently due to some unknown factor. All other corals are currently very healthy and growing well. Perhaps whatever the problem is that affected the montis is now getting around to the clams. I hope not!! I have also lost several large Mexican turbos, probably to old age, and they are very funky...I have had some suspicion that may have been a contributing factor.

Kasey: I use SE 1000W Ushio 20K lamps.

love the ushios myself. I'm guessing most of the montis were near the top? Did they all die off after the bulb change or before, if it was before I would think montipora eating nudibranchs they got to one of my nicest montis once, but I haven't heard of them effecting clams, I'm still thinking the lighting change, but there are smarter people on here than me when it comes to clams.

montis were not near the top. They were growing very well middle to low in the tank. No nudis found. No red bugs found. No PO4 found. They started STNing long before I changed out the bulb.

The clam is the only thing that has changed after the bulb swap. In fact the few frags I have left of the montis seem to be recovering, but they are all over the tank, not just under the swapped bulb.
