clam came off rock

I just bought a 4" crocea clam. It was attached to a flat rock and when I got it home it was detached. There was some thread like things on the rock. I put it back on the rock yeaterday but it was on the sand today. Was it harmed from coming off the rock ? Can I leave it on the sand ? Thanks

when clams are moved, a lot of the time they will detach from the rock they were on. if it came of on its own and wasn't pulled off it should be fine. i would place a small rock under the clam and when it reattaches you can move it where you want depending on your lighting

I had put it back on the rock and it came off. Does that mean it wants to stay on the sand ? It kind of dug in the sand a bit. thanks

in the wild Croceas are found up in the reef(on the rocks)

any time you move a clam, its going to take time for it to adjust so its going to move around a bit. i would still place a small flat rock under it(about a half inch under the sand) so it can attach to it and then if you need to move it up later it will be a lot easier

I dont know if there is a connection but over the years I have had 4 clams that after I had moved them around they have died. Coincidence? A friend of mine experienced the same with the only clam he ever had. i am paranoid about moving them now.
