Clam Coloration= Lighting?

Hey guys,

Can lighting affect a clams color??.. Less light= dull coloration??

Can it get brighter in time if given proper lighting?

Thanks!

Tridacnid clams do have symbiotic zooxanthellae just light corals, so too little light will in fact cause loss of coloration. Assuming your not talking about lighting turning a clam from blue to green, then yes it can affect the color. Case in point, I bought a deresa clam a few weeks ago that was being kept under VHO lighting. Under my T5s, it is significantly darker in color, and the colors are much more vibrant.

Island,

Thanks for your input :)

Im talking about making its natural colors darker/brighter. Im assuming that during shipping and acclimating a clam can stress and expel its symbiotic algae.. making it much duller.

Ill snap some pictures and maybe you can tell me if it has a chance for change :)

Here is a picture of the clam im talking about. Its the one on the left :)

Any comments are very much appreciated :)

Dumb question incoming..

Why do they look much different from the top than from the side of the glass?

Color me dumb as well. I don't know either.

As for the clams, it's difficult to say. Some are colored differently than others. Color-wise, those clams look pretty healthy, though, and my guess would be that the color doesn't change signifcantly. I'm speaking from very limited experience, though.
