I have kept many crocea and maxima clams in the past with my current set-up. I sold those clams and decides to keep a few 'gems'. I purchased one crocea maybe a little over 3" that arrived at a LFS the night before. Acclimated it right and I within 9hrs there was barelt any flesh. What happened to my clam? I want to find out before I go and purchase another clam with the same fate.

are your other clams still ok??

did the new clam open after you put it on the tank?

can you list your params and livestock?

That was the only clam at the time I added the clam. I did open up, maybe 75% when I added it. All the parameters were in acceptable ranges. Livestock at the time was 2 clownfish, 1 wrasse.

some wrasse's can be a problem but that sounds pretty fast. it's hard to say exactly what happened because it happened fast and i never saw it but it was probably the stress in shipping and moving the clam.

sorry i can't be of more help

I did see something move into the sand when I picked up the clam. It was secreting a large amount of mucous.

I just want to know what happened because I dont want my next clam to have the same fate as this one. They are beautiful creatures.

That could be a possible parasitic worm. I remember mmbuna mentioning a worm that leaves a slime trail when it strikes. Maybe he will chime in.
