hey everybody,
just doing some research on foods for clams (got a new maxima, about 2 - 2.5 inches)
i've heard of DT's phyto, and Kents phyto. as i understand it, DT's is live, while Kent's is frozen?
Also has anyone heard of "Liquid-Life - BioPlankton - Liquid Algae" ? its something a store very close to me carries, they said its live algae in suspension....
thanks!
Z.

I heard of liquied life, think I reacall that I remember some good reports on it, I used to use DTs but it baecame to costly and a PITA for me to find in a rural setting....So I culture my own, works great and super cheap!

i've heard about liquid life but not used it... there are questions about clams and the actual size of the phyto since they have undergone some sort of processing .... may no longer be the right size...

I currently use phytofeast and am getting good results in the tank... it's cheaper than dt's too...

Since using it 3 wks ago I've seen new polyps on my rock that weren't there before... can't tell any difference in my clam as it's 5 inches or so and not sure if it's eating or not...

I use kents phyto, I have a maxima about the same size as yours and it's been in my tank for 4 months now. It's growing put about a 1/4 of new shell.

thanks everyone, for the feedback, just trying to get a sense of what the consensus is
thanks cristhiam, i remember you said you use kents from my post about my new clams mouth.
the reason i wanted to know was b/c the store closest to me sells both liquid-life and kents, but not DT's, so i wanted to see what was comparable.
thanks everybody for the feedback.

yes joes site and flame*Angels site have some very good information and pics for culturing live foods....I ordered my kit from florida aquafarms....both sites mentioned above have the link to them....

But its pretty easy to do, you just need empty clean two liter soda bottles, air line, an aip pump and some gang valves...and the algaee source from either a buddy that already has a culture , or you can order the culture disks, and a food source i use the mciro algae grow...oh forgot about the floresent lights....I have my cultre station set up in a spare closet in my testarone room....ut check ou the sites for sure. can even hook you up with some phyto to get started, but yuou will need a food source anyway...so might be easier and cheaper to get ther small kit from florida aquafarms...
