Clam Gaping - Advice

Hi, I have a derasa clam thats about 6 inches, I keep him on the substrate in a 30GXXH tank (around 28 inches deep or something)

A few days ago I upgrades from 130W PCs to 250W MH.. Now I shaded the clam so he doesn't get the full brunt of the light and cut down significantly on the photoperiod to acclimate him, but whenever I turn on the MHs, he starts gaping. When the halides go off, he stops...

Is this just temporary? Does it just have to acclimate or am I risking the clam's life? What should I do?

what are you shading the clam with?

some CDs.. they do a pretty good job of providing a shady spot..

im thinking that it might need a little more shade for now

yeah, I think I am going to pick up some window screen.. maybe that will help.. thanks
