Clam help

I have a maximum Clam and yesterday it did not fully expand so I was checking him out and I wanted to see if he was attach to the rock I placed him on. So I pick him up and flip him over and the foot was a little recessed and there was a fleshy tubular thing sticking out of it and at the end of this was all frayed like little pieces of string. I can try to add a pic after I get off of work

That's normal, it's called the byssal gland....sounds like you should look into the details on clam keeping....it will help you :)

What kind of lights do you have him under? Him not expanding could be a problem, but it's not because of his byssal gland.

(PS...it's a maxima clam)
