Clam ID

If anyone can help me id this clam i would really appreciate it.

I thought it was a squamosa but the shell is asymetrical, so im not really too sure what it is. (my other squamosa has a symetrical shell).

He is just a young fellow, his shell is only 3-4 inches across

One more quick question, he keeps jumping from the spot i place him on, often jumping into what i think is a worse position than where he is placed, i keep replacing him but i fear im just stressing him out.

My other squamosa just sat the like a lardy couch potato where i first placed him so i never had this problem before. The smaller one is right next to him so i though the conditions would be similar/ suited to him as much as the other squamosa.

it is a squammie. if it is moving, it is unhappy- trust it. let it move a little to try to find where it likes. just dont let it sit upside down, or on an anemone or anything.

Its definately a squamie......For some reason out of all of my clams, my squamosa has moved the most. All the others I have stay where they were put, I don't know, squamosas are just movers and shakers. He will eventually find the space he likes and stay there. Mine loves to press up against the front glass.... the one place I don't want him to be ofcourse.


Let him go where he wants....... he will no matter what you do anyways

well he has jumped, twisted and turned, and lo and behold he looks like he may have settled down......... against the damn front glass! wohoo i get to watch the shell while my tank gets the nice mantle view! :rolleye1:

I think i found out why he may have been jumping around.

The position where i sat him originally recieved around 2 hours of natural sunlight every day, and the funny thing is, he always jumped towards the sunlight!, the position he has himself in now is facing directly into the sunlight through the windows, so im just guessing he misses his natual light source. :lol:

what type of lighting do you have? squamies are generally a lower lighting clam, but that's not to say they don't enjoy some direct bright light as well.

he is at the bottom of a standard 2ft tank lit by a 150W blv 10k.
