Clam lost it's foot

Hello, i have a 7-8" deresa clam that was attached to two somewhat small rocks. Seems like it got a bit top heavy and with the help of flow it tumbled on it's side and ripped the filaments that were holding it on the rock. I checked out the underside of the clam and there does not seem to be a hole or anything. The clam does not seem as responsive as in the past, closing when i block the light and such. What do you think?

Derasas, especially at that size, will not rely on byssal threads to stay in place, instead relying in their weight. These are sand dwelling clams, so putting it on the floor of the tank is a good idea.

If the hole has already been calcified shut then as crvz mentioned it is no longer relying on byssal threads. Derasa are usually found on the sand, so you may want to put it there. When you say the clam in top heavy, do you mean it appears deformed? The clam may have just rocked itself in an attempt to move it's position at this stage in it's life.

Hey guys ... seems like the clam fine! Thanks for all your help. I have left him off the rocks and now sits on the floor ... I go BB so no sand. will this be ok?

Should be fine just prop him up with rocks so he does not fall over.
