Clam mantel

I have a large crocea clam that has moved into an area where its mantel brushes up against some tall button polyps(protopalythoa vestitus) probably. Its been in this same spot for several months. Can the polyps cause damage to the mantel?I recently had some tissue die on the mantel, but the clam seems to be fine. It does seem that the mantel is growing in such a way as to avoid the polyps.

^agreed with all the above.

I have seen polyps growing on clams with no adverce affects whatsoever. Should be no harm whatsoever. Even shaded polyps (from the mantel) will reach for adaquate lighting if necesary.
