Clam placement/water changes

I have a 4"maxima that I usually keep as high in the tank as possible. The tank is 65g, 20" deep with a 250w HQI MH.
However, when I do a water change, I have to move him so that he will not end up high and dry during the change. I know that clams generally prefer not to be moved, so I have 3 options:

1) Place the clam on the substrate and leave him there (will he get enough light?)

2) Continue as now, moving him for water changes

3) Leave him on top and let him become un-submerged for 10minutes during a water change (I can't believe this one is a good idea, but maybe I'm wrong)

Thanks

Option #4

Option #4

Move him slightly lower in the tank, off the substrate but below the water change line.

Problem solved.
