Clam placement

Recently purchased my first Clam, electric green corcea.
Now, i purchased about 2-3 empty shells so that it has something to attach to. Should I burry the shell under sand and then keep the clam on it ? or should I place the shell on the sand bed and place the clam over it ? would this disturb the clam from moving around / opening completely ?

I have always just laid the oyster shell ontop of the sand bed and placed the clam on top of it.
They always attached withing a week.

Except for this one gold maxima.
But he's a punk with an attitude.

shell face up or face down...what happens if you place the clam in the sand

I've placed mine with the shell inside facing up
By placing it on the sandbed, it won't have any place to attach. I think
