clam quarantine protocol

Hi, I'm wondering how long it would be reccomended to quarantine new clams before introducing to display tank. My quarantine is a 30 gallon with 2 96watt compacts and the display is a 58 gallon with 1-250hqi pendent. My last clam is a maxima and was in the 30 for about 3 months. It began to receed along the mantle and lost some color, but looks great under the halide and is fully exposed. So, what amount of time would be required to rule out most potential problems? Thanks, Rob.

IME & IMO I think that 2-3 weeks would be fine. But then you must be careful when putting in the tank with the MH as to acclimate them over a good period of time as to not stress them. You can place a shield over the tank top where the clams will be and later remove the shield slowly so that more lights get to them.

Most people do not place their clams in a q-tank but with everything going on, it isn't a bad idea.

Thanks Barry. How's the 150hqi working in your tank and when are you expecting next batch of clams? Saw your teaming up with Dr. Mac. Is he handling sps, corals and your focus is clamming? Are you planning some fish, too? Thanks again, Rob.

Hi Robert,

Was going into SPS as well but I would like to keep my focus on my true love which is clams and by doing that I won't be distracted by other things. I am in the process of carrying a complete line of Knop products which includes food, vitamins and reactors.

Yes Dr Mac has passed on his clam client to me and we will be doing something together down the road. It was a compliment that he choose clamsdirect for his customers. Thanks Doc :)

Received some clams this week.

Barry, Saw your recent shipment and they look real nice. As usual, they really are grabbed quick. I'll try to watch out for next time and get some then. Maybe try to find some other central floridians to split an order. Anyway, are you happy with the 150hqi? Just wondering as I'm debating replacing my compacts when time for bulb replacing comes around. Take care, Rob.

Rob,

Yes I love those HQIs as my holding tanks at not very deep (17") and they do a great job. With open top my temp never goes over 80 degress.

More in 2 weeks.

Come on guys...if this were anymore commercial there would be a neon sign. Can you take this to private message or email? Thread closed.
