Clam Question...

I bought a clam yesterday, was told its a Maxima, and am hopefully just paranoid but regardless would like to know more.

Im afraid the mantle might be gaping. I have him in a 28gallon tank with 175MH and 110w PC lighting. The water parameters are good. Hes at the bottom of the tank on the sand so Im wondering if he just needs more light? Thing is, he has attatched to the rock next to him. I will practically have to tear the tank apart to move that rock. If he is in need of more light, is there a way to detach him without causing damage?

I think thats about it for now. Im sure I will think of more as the replies come.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, he has very good response time to shadows and other than a possible gape, he is looking great. Just hoping that hes getting enough light.

The gaping will more likely be due to not being acclimatised fully. It is stressed, but will be alright.

If its still gaping after two days I would start to worry, otherwise since its newly introduced to your tank it can become stressed, so no real worries there.

This is how my clam was gaping after I put it into the tank. The journey from LFS was long etc, so the acclimatisation wasnt good.

This is how it is a day later. No more gaping.

Hope that helps. :)
