clam question

I paid 50.00 for a purple one at the nashville swap last year because the guy told me I could keep one under vho's and it died within a couple of months.

I've heard people say they've grown them under PC's and VHO's, but I'd recommend MH or T5s with good reflectors. Mine have always had better color under MH.

Dersa clams might be a better one to try (require the least light of all the clams). Also I think VHO and PC lights need to changed out every 6 months to keep them at peek performance. Jay (neuroslicer) used VHO over his old tanks and grew out some beautiful SPS and clams. A PAR meter would be one of those nice luxuries to see how effective you lights are. I am hoping to be able to get one at some point, after I get a generator!

I think the club has a light meter, I don't know who has it at the moment.I was thinking about testing my par readings on my t5's.

Cool. I was wondering because my fiance really likes the clams and I was thinking of trying to add one I will definetley go with a dersa. And I just changed one side of my lights and will be replacing the other soon. I have recently added a christmas tree worm rock and the encrusting coral that grows on it seems to be doing well, is that a good sign cause I think that is considered to be sps?

Really? Wouldn't mind taking some baseline readings on my new T5 & MH Lamps, just for reference into the "Gee Whiz" file, for future comparision.

Who's got it? May I borrow please?

I don't know who has, If we find out sure go ahead and see what kind of par reading you get.I am curious to see what mine are as well.

I seriously think all this club equipment needs to be located and documented. seems like we have stuff but nobody knows where it is or for sure exactly what we do have. Surely SOMEBODY knows something????

Glad you Volunteered! I second the motion!

no that was not me volunteering. All of these acquisitions were made while I was away from the club for a couple years so I have no idea what the club even has. That is what I was referring to. Surely it must be documented or someone who was part of the club when these things were purchased must know where this stuff is or the very least what was purchased.
I have heard about a couple phyto makers, drill bits and now a light meter.

Also, we have loaner 20 gal tank with filter and light. This was mostly for loan for a QT tank. I never heard we had a light meter.

The 29 gallon QT tank I had was last loaned out to Willem and Jennifer Bermel. I still one more here at the house. It is tank with an Eclipse hood.
The club should also have diamond core drill bits.
I have not heard of us having a light meter, but what do I know...I haven't been to a meeting in a year.

One of the phyto making things was with the father and son pair but I have not seen them in over a year..

We talked about buying a light meter but never did.

Barrett must still have the drill bits.

We don't have a lot of stuff, but yes, we need to organize it. I think it would make sense for whoever is tracking the library book loan outs could also keep track of who is holding what equipment.

I think we should wait to buy something like a par meter till we have a system in place to keep track of it.

It was last year I heard about the light meter,I thought we had one.(my bad).Maybe we can look at purchasing one for the club.I could keep up with the club equipment.I would need to know who has what, and a list of all equipment. Thanks

I would love to see a par meter within the club. I have changed out bulbs a few times and would love to see the par differences in them. I will pitch in a few bucks if we can get some money together to all go in for one.

I think a par meter would be great for the club to have and maybe a good way to track it is to bring it to every meeting then the host would get the benefit of getting to see how effective their lights are And also would be a great teaching tool to all of us to see just how well (or how poor) the different light setups work. I have one of the phyto reactors and will have some phyto for the Christmas meeting but I would like to be able to pass on the reactor to someone else. I can keep up with phyto with a two litter bottle system so it would be good to pass this around and get some more started. The Club bought a book (very informative) and some starter disk so it would be ready to go, nothing else to purchase.
