clam rotating or turning

Hello,

This may be a very basic question. I recently purchased a baby maxima clam that is 1.5". I have it sitting in my sand bed under 150W. The clam is about 22" from the lighting. Water levels are all within normal limits (ca, pH, salinity, temps, etc.). I have about 600 gph flow through the tank for a 24 gallon tank (I know, too small for a maxima, but I figured by the time it gets to big for my tank, it will be time to upgrade). However, my clam rotates every couple of days as though it is trying to find the best angle towards the lighting. I'm not sure if this is why it "rotating" or "turning". Is this normal? The clam is not exhibiting any other adverse symptoms.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Phu

thanks for the info. Do you think that it should be moved since it is turning to get more light?

I have the clam already on a flat rock with about 0.5inches of sand over the rock.

Thanks in advance

i put a half shell beneath my squammie over a month ago. It still has never attached to anything since May. It just sits on the shell i gave it and everyday it has spun around but it's doing great.

Your clam is trying to find a happy and comfortable place to attach to. Lighting isn't an issue though, at least not yet, as your clam is too small to rely on lighting for survival/food!
What are you feeding your clam now? You should be feeding nanoplankton/phytoplankton and yeast!
Not until it is around 3" in size will lighting be a critical issue in your Clam's health and long term survival.
