Clam spawning in sps tank?

rogergolf66

im an addict lol
What do I do? I added a normall amout of carbon that I add every 2 weeks and I changed the filter socks. Anything else I should do? The tank is on an auto water changer so it gets small water changes every day.

Clams spawning in the tank is not generally a good sign, it's a sign that the clam is under stress due to fluctuating light levels, temperatures or water conditions. While it's really cool to watch, it's probably a sign something is wrong. Check your lights, temp, water params, add carbon, and do at least a 20% WC. If you've got SPS in there and other filter feeders, they will pick up a lot of the goop, but make sure your skimmer is running as it'll get lots of the spawn out as well.

Thanks for info. It's been a couple weeks since. No issues. The lighting hasn't changed the tank is on apex for temp so no changes there. The other parameters that can be measured are checked weekly and documented. No changes. That's not to say that something we don't test for has changed and I don't know it. All is good though. I just added carbon. No water change other then my normal daily change with automatic water changer. All went fine no stress or losses of coral. The skimmer did pull some darker gunk then normal though :)

I had this happen to me once and it was because of my new AI Hydra26 light. I was playing with the moonlighting and a few days later a new moon came in and both my starfish and clam went nuts!!! Did a 10g water change (Tank is a 28g nano) and all was fine.

Glad to hear everything was fine with your tank as well.

Glad to hear things are going well!

When this happened to me, like the previous poster, I had fiddled with the light cycle and everything spawned all at once, all my clams and both my fan worms.
Then I lost one clam, and another got eaten by a previously docile snowflake eel.
