Clam with flat worms

I've been looking at this derasa at the LFS for the past 4 weeks very pretty (Blue) but it's got flat worms around the shell, are this flat worms bad for the clam? I'm thinking about buying it and wash him around the shell with fresh water very carefully and brushing him, will this work? the clam is about 4 or 5"
Thanks

I have 3 clams and lots and lots of flat worms. I have never had a problem. I would say to get the clam and take a Turkey baster and "blow" off the shell of the clam and inspect the shell carefully to make sure you got them all.

Thank you, I'll be getting the clam tomorrow so I'll just clean those worms out before putting in my tank.

I have two clams and have used FWE twice. No problems with the clams. Still have flat worms though. I hop third times a charm:D

I have tons of FW's in my clam tank and they don't bother the clams. If your system is already FW free then I would just brush the clam shell off with a toothbrush before putting it in the tank. Actually, IME, you should always brush any clam shell off well before putting it in your tank to help eliminate parasites such as pyramidellid snails and their eggs.
