Clamp streams to overflow in AGA tank

Hi,

I just got my streams TS24 kit this afternoon!!! :D

However, like most others who have AGA tanks, just found out that I needed an optional bracket to make these work in an AGA tank. Rather than doing that, I figured why not mount them in the overflow boxes?

The tank (180) is still in the building process and rocks will be added within the next couple of weeks. I figure I would work the rock arrangement around this.

Do you guys see any problems with this method of attachement as opposed to mounting them using the optional AGA clamp kit?

If this presents any issues I would rather mount them with magnets as it has been suggested.

Another question would be:

Would it be ok to screw the transformers to the wood stand? I see the transformers have a hole in the middle with a hexagon cutout on one side as if to fix a hex nut in there???

How is everyone else mounting their transformers?

Any help will be greatly appreciated,

Their is absolutely nothing wrong with this installation. I covered that in the thread on mounting hardware. I think it is a great solution as it simplifies installation and the balck background of the overflow helps hide the pump.

Thanks for the reply Roger.

i have mounted mine via a screw through the centre to a wooden frame.

One thing to consider is that since the transformer is a toroidal you need to avoid a magnetic loop via any mounting method. Now this is not a problem when mounting to wood etc but if full metal mounting is used onto a metal frame etc a little care would be a good idea.

But i am sure Roger will correct me if i am mistaken

Bigreef,

I found these hooks at HD that are long and thing enough to hold the coils wo having to screw them in.

The hooks will go into wood.

Thanks for the advise.

I will set each coil ..one on the left leg and one on the right leg.
the controller will go on the side of the stand mounted with the provided velcro strips. I will replace one of the din cables that go from the controller to the farthest driver with a longer one since my tank is 6ft long and the din cables are only 3ft long.

The whole idea is to have everything mounted outside the stand to prevent moisture and salt from entering the components.
